America's Shame: Two Years After Hurricane Katrina Even before the storms, the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast regions were exposed to poverty and a historic legacy of institutional neglect, classism, sexism and racism. The Bush administration's policies, designed to pad the coffers of big business and the pockets of the wealthiest Americans, have deepened and reinforced this poverty. Tax cuts for the wealthy, bold faced cronyism and the changes in bankruptcy laws all point to a government that operates on a policy of quick grabs for the few with little regard for those outside the favored circle or the future of the country. The relief and rebuilding efforts must ...
The message was very clear during and even now two years after Hurricane Katrina's devastation. The world witnessed first hand American's shame: If you are poor and of African descent, America is not concerned about your well-being. During the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and even today, the world watched the bureaucratic bungling, massive incompetence and unconscionable neglect.
Are We Losing the Propaganda War in Our Schools Imagine a public school teacher telling his/her students, “For the next few weeks, you’re all going to become Christians.” Imagine that students had to wear crosses, memorize Christian prayers and recite them, memorize Christian concepts of the Eucharist and celebrate them, fast during Lent and chant “Jesus is the Messiah!” How long would it take for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to file a lawsuit? A week? A day? A minute? As we’ve seen many times, it would be immediate and very expensive for the school district, which, ...
In 2000, a seventh grade teacher in California ’s Byron Union School District (about fifty miles east of San Francisco ) forced her seventh-grade students to become Muslims for three weeks. Students had to wear a star and crescent, memorize Muslim prayers, verses and the five pillars of faith, fast during lunch period as if it were Ramadan, chant “Allah Akbar!” and play a dice game called “jihad,” which was defined for students as a “struggle against oppression.” What did the ACLU have to say about this? Nothing. Not a peep. ...

Behold- The Possible Ist lady of the United States, Judith Gulliani Rudy and Judy can fuhgedaboutit. Republicans have already made comments like..."this is divorce on steroids"...referring to the both of them. That "lack of restraint" has turned lots of folks off these two. No one will ever forget the most memorable highlights of the Rudy/Judy romance and how it ripped their families apart til this day. One thing for sure, they could never mention "family values" in campaign speeches.
Rose, while I'm inclined to agree with your analysis on the face of it, I'd say one thing, and that is -- the United States Republican party is known to be full of surprises, and I've ceased to doubt their ability to pull a rabbit out of a hat like they always do when the chips are down. You can bet your life that if Rudy and Judy are the only options they have, he'll come out smelling better than a Rose (no pun here)... Heck he may even come out smelling better than Georgie and Laura. There's nothing I put past the GOP these days. After ...

There before them, on its back, lay another corpse, all but baked into a pose of submission by several hot suns. The workers placed the corpse in a zippered black bag somewhat larger than the kind used to protect ...
