family relationship advice

(25 Messages)

My MIL has just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. She's been in pain for quite a long time now. Her youngest son, age 21 and his girlfriend, age ~25 lives in her home, and my MIL is raising another son's daughter who is 7. Her son and his girlfriend don't do anything to help out around the house, and they both work. MIL feels like her house is slipping away because she's hurting so much and can do so little. Should I say something to her son and his girlfriend to get them to clean up the house m ...

Another question about Uncles and Aunts

(7 Messages)

What if, is the case of one of my friends, there father's brother dies but they stay very close to the Aunt. The Aunt is clearly the aunt since she's the widow of the uncle. She then marries a man. She stays there aunt right? This man is nothing, not an uncle to them or anything, right? Jason HERKJASON

Amazoncom Education and Democratic Citizenship in America BooksAmazon.com: Education and Democratic Citizenship in America: Books Editorial Reviews Book Description Formal education is crucial for creating enlightened and active citizens. The better educated are more engaged, more knowledgeable, and more politically tolerant. Despite a dramatic increase in education attainment over the last quarter century, political engagement has not risen at a commensurate level. How and why education affects citizenship in these ways has until now been a puzzle. Norman H. Nie, Jane Junn, and Kenneth Stehlik-Barry provide answers by uncovering the causal relationship between education and democratic citizenship. They argue that ...

History of Education Selected MomentsHistory of Education: Selected Moments In Democratic Education, Amy Gutmann begins by outlining various theories that give authority over education either to the state, the family or educational professionals. While each of these three groups have something substantial to offer to the education of young people, not one of them is sufficient in and of itself. She encourages participation from all three groups but notes that the state and families must have limits placed upon their contributions.

Institute for Democracy in EducationInstitute for Democracy in Education Place-based education enables students to become contributing members of their community through informed decision-making and actions that lead to community improvement. Why should students wait until they are “adults” to learn how to become involved in their communities? With so many students questioning, “Why are we learning this?” we have a response through place-based education: because it truly matters to you and to your community.

We invite teachers, students, environmental educators, and others to share stories about programs that promote place-based education, community-based learning or service learning that requires student engagement in community action. We are looking for stories from the classroom to help other educators come to a deeper understanding of place-based education from a curriculum and pedagogical perspective. While implementing change is never easy, hearing from others who have gone through the experience helps avoid some pitfalls while easing the path to successful ...

Under the weatherUnder the weather The Republican Party is only the most visible part of the American right. The right's hidden strength lies in its conservative base. America is almost unique in possessing a vibrant conservative movement. Every state boasts organisations fighting in favour of guns and against taxes and abortion. The Christian right can call upon megachurches and Evangelical colleges. Conservatives have also created a formidable counter-establishment of think-tanks and pressure groups.

And many Americans who are not members of the movement happily embrace the label “conservative”. They think of themselves as God-fearing patriots who dislike big government and are tough on crime and national security. In 2004 roughly a third of the voters identified themselves as conservatives; just over 20% identified themselves as “liberal” (as American left-wingers are somewhat strangely called). Conservatives have driven the policy debate on everything from crime to welfare to foreign policy.

Editor39s Column quotRazzle DazzlequotEditor's Column "Razzle Dazzle" Razzle Dazzle: Wally's Uneasy Summer By RICHARD STEIER Wally the Ex-Firefighter sounded unaccountably gloomy when reached on his cell phone July 31 while he secured a parking spot near Yankee Stadium before some cop declared it illegal. "Proctor was just on the radio," he said, referring to Scott Proctor, the overworked Yankee relief pitcher who had been traded to the Dodgers. "He sounded like they ran his dog over.

Sexed curriculum leaves out marriage familySex-ed curriculum leaves out marriage, family Peggy Loonan's (Life & Liberty for Women) recent comments (July 25 Soapbox) were misleading half-truths and fall seriously short of promoting liberty for women. The comprehensive sexuality education for which she advocates systematically excludes discussion about healthy marriage and family formation. A significant life goal for most young singles is the desire to develop successful, healthy marriages, but comprehensive sex education withholds this important information. Ignoring the relationship between marriage and responsible fatherhood contributes to out-of-wedlock childbearing, putting more women ...

Loonan's constant drumbeat about WAIT Training and other abstinence curricula not being medically accurate is, at best, ill advised. She must think that if she keeps writing it or saying it, that will make it so. All abstinence curricula that are funded by federal or state grants are mandated to be medically accurate and must be properly referenced from peer-reviewed journals, government publications, medical publications textbooks or other clearly identified sources. Lastly, when parents are allowed to directly compare abstinence education with comprehensive sex education, parents ...

Education and commodificationEducation and commodification Dr Shahid Siddiqui Education is an intriguing phenomenon which impacts society and at the same time gets impacted by the societal changes. The objectives, dynamics, pedagogies, assessments, and outcomes of education have been changing during different periods of history. A number of sociological, political, and economic influences on education can be traced as we study the history of education. A relatively recent phenomenon that has totally changed education is neo-liberalism. Neo-liberalism which is basically an economic phenomenon has certain essential attributes. These attributes include, free market, non intervention of state, ...

PUNITIVE PATTERN OF INVESTIGATIONS YA THINK HPUNITIVE PATTERN OF INVESTIGATIONS? YA THINK? H To dat, Mary Beth Buchanan has indicted no Republicans in her district. She has also had the standard of pulling cases that were outside her district into her area (US vs. Extreme Associates, US vs. Chong), so the excuse that it was referred to washington for Santorum seems not to be in character. The only difference inthe cases is the others were beneficial to a Republican Party fringe group point of view and prosecuting Santorum, while that is not beneficial to Republicans. Additionally, Mary Beth Buchanan has been accused of misusing her office and staff in a similiar (if not more absurd) way then what ...
