ON DRINKING AND DRIVING Last weekend, my son came over to see me for a heart to heart talk. He told me that he wants to become a teacher. Naturally, I did my best to encourage him. I'm interested on finding out peoples opinions about drinking and driving. I'm a firm believer of zero tollerance when it comes to alcohol and driving. If you want to drink, then don't drive. It's that simple. PJ. 80) P.S. Merry Christmas and safe driving to everyone!

For those who haven't seen it on the news, there was a fatal accident in NB in late October in which two parents were killed and two children injured, one still in hospital. The driver was granted bail a couple of days ago. The family was outraged, and they said so! FDA OKs ADHD Treatment Patch April 6, 2006 - The FDA has approved the first skin patch for treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, despite ongoing debate about whether similar drugs should require stricter safety warnings. Those drugs have recently been under scrutiny at the FDA. Two separate advisory committees have recommended stronger warnings for ADHD drugs because of reports suggesting that they may contribute to increased heart attack and stroke risk in adults and a danger of psychiatric side effects, including suicidal behaviors, in children. ...

Treatment versus deterrence - drunk driving Alcohol Health Several States enacted legislation that required diagnosis of persons convicted of a DWI offense and mandated that these individuals participate in a DWI education or therapy program. Unfortunately, many locations offered education or treatment in lieu of traditional penalties, such as license suspensions. In some cases, persons who participated in an education or treatment program thereby avoided conviction on an alcohol-related offense. Because DWI offenses were not entered on drivers' records in these situations, many repeat offenders remained "first offenders" on official records. Some of the most ...
Most referrals of DWI offenders are to therapeutic programs that range from education to outpatient counseling or therapy. Inpatient counseling is less frequently available and less often recommended. Programs vary significantly in their length, format, content, and structure. Whereas most educational programs are 2 to 6 weeks in length, some therapy programs continue for a year or longer. Often, education programs are didactic in format and emphasize an increased awareness of both the effects of alcohol on the body and the legal penalties for alcohol-impaired driving. In contrast, therapy programs are more ...
