California: Wall Street hands state a stunner - - The Orange County Register ^ | Thursday, January 16, 2003 | JONATHAN LANSNER The Orange County Register California came to Wall Street with a tin cup Wednesday, looking to fill a small hole in its fast-leaking fiscal bucket. Traders demanded a fat ransom for a minor patch. The state sold $3 billion of some peculiar bonds at interest rates that look a lot like the interest rates lenders charge failing enterprises these days. Forget debates over ho ...

I have a few of Silver & Deming drill bits ranging from 5/8" to 1" which I purchased at the local Princess Auto. When drilling 3/16" mild steel they seem to cut alright for a hole or maybe two (using a 1/2", 3/4", 1" sequence for example) but the edges dull quickly and even worse, the flukes(sp) have a tendancy to chip off making resharpening a lengthyand annoying procedure. I have priced out better bits (4 or 5 times as expensive with nothing apparently availab ...

The problem with outsourcing By Robert Kuttner | April 21, 2004 THE PEOPLE who insist that outsourcing is a trivial problem are wrong -- but so are those who tell you that there is an easy solution. The basic dilemma has several parts. First, the productivity of workers in poor countries is running far ahead of the wages they receive. That means Mexican autoworkers, unlike their American counterparts, can't afford to buy the cars they build. This reality is unprecedented. There has always been a ...

Job Accommodation Network Cerebral palsy is a term used to describe a group of chronic conditions affecting body movement and muscle coordination. It is caused by damage to one or more specific areas of the brain, usually occurring during fetal development; before, during, or shortly after birth; or during infancy. Thus, these disorders are not caused by problems in the muscles or nerves. Instead, faulty development or damage to motor areas in the brain disrupt the brain's ability to adequately control movement and posture (United Cerebral Palsy, 2001).
CP is characterized by an inability to fully control motor function, particularly muscle control and coordination. Depending on which areas of the brain have been damaged, one or more of the following may occur: muscle tightness or spasticity; involuntary movement; disturbance in gait or mobility, difficulty in swallowing and problems with speech. In addition, the following may occur: abnormal sensation and perception; impairment of sight, hearing or speech; seizures; and/or mental retardation. Other problems that may arise are difficulties in feeding, bladder and bowel control, problems with breathing because ...
Brain Injury Lawyer Vancouver BC - Personal Injury - Webster Incorporating Not-For-Profit Organizations: Is it worth it? by Daniel Corrin, LLB Introduction: There are a myriad of groups that support brain injured individuals in this province and they come in all shapes and sizes. Located from Peace River to Port Alberni, these groups must decide how they will structure themselves and run their organizations. Having recently had the pleasure of working with Ms. Tina Suter and her New Westminster support group as it transitioned into a non-profit society called B.R.A.I.N. (Brain Resource Advocacy Information Network), I thought I would ...

Introduction TOP Abstract Introduction Method Results Discussion References Despite heightened attention to the use of psychotropic medications during pregnancy and the rapidly expanding use of atypical antipsychotics for an array of mental disorders common among women of childbearing age, the reproductive safety data regarding these agents remains surprisingly limited. Similarly, there are sparse data regarding fetal exposure to these medications. Investigations of prenatal psychotropic administration have extended to the in vivo quantitative examination of fetal drug exposure with placental passage (i.e., ...
Oregon families say state falls behind on special needs students 07/21/2007 By JULIA SILVERMAN / Associated Press Nearly every area associated with education got a significant budget boost from the Oregon Legislature this year, from pre-kindergarten programs to the state's seven universities. Except, that is, for a fairly obscure regional program that serves an estimated 8,000 or so families across Oregon whose children are autistic, or struggle with orthopedic problems, or were born deaf, blind or both. The ranks of such families are small, but growing fast, by 20 percent in the last two years alone. ...
Privatizing the Leviathan Immigration State Privatizing the Leviathan Immigration State by Robert Koulish The post-911 immigration regime originates in 2003 when immigration control shifted from the Department of Justice to the new Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The Immigration and Naturalization Service was abolished March 2003, and its functions were transferred into the newly created DHS, in a merger of some 180,000 employees from 22 different agencies. The DHS has a mission to "unite much of the federal government's effort to secure the homeland, with the primary goal being an America that is stronger, safer and more secure." ...
