Got this story from Rangers World.
RANGERS Football Club have unveiled an ambitious and ground-breaking new development company set to protect and nurture tomorrow's football stars.
Rangers Youth Development Limited, which has attracted four key backers and a total of ??1 million in investment, is a new and revolutionary business model for youth development. By creating a separate company, with the power to sell players to the Rangers first team and other clubs, as well as buying new talent for development from around the world, RFC has created a self-sustaining organisation with complete autonomy, separate budgets, business plan and objectives Benjam Fetai is the first player signed by RYD Ltd.

I guess something had to be done.

The etims rumour mill had this ages ago. Honestly. It's basically privatising the youth development because you can't afford to maintain it.
Four backers chip in ??1 million each and "own" a quarter of any player that comes through. You'll notice that "the power to *sell* players to the Rangers first team" mean sthat you'll now need to pay the company for your own young players. Another good bit of business by the mint.

So in other words the budget for youth development is now completely independent of the club? Surely this is a good thing given the finances of the club...
Wasn't it 1m total investment?
I don't see the problem with this. The new youth company will be operating in it's own right and be independent of the main club's finances. It will also be able to sell to other clubs, obviously with Rangers having the say over which players they "buy"... with the money they invested in the youth policy previously...

Apart from the fact that Rangers will have to pay a fee for their own players?

Not if the youth development is also independent of the club. Players you previously got for nothing will now cost you money to buy. It looks like all the youth development that went before has now been outsourced like the catering and ticketing. It's probably the worst type of ***et stripping -
this is the future of the club that has been sold here.
If that's the case then it's even worse - only ??250,000 to own a quarter of Rangers youth development programme? Even one Barry Ferguson means a return of ??1.5million - that's a profit of 500%. Quite a good deal for someone. I wonder who...
Why obviously? The youth development has been privatised for want of a better word. It's now an independent entity. You've just sold the family silver.

Eh? Rangers would not have had to pay ??6m for BF at 17/18.

"Old Father Tim" Oldfathertimspamul...@hotmail.com

I'm not talking about Rangers buy him. I should have clarified - I've been asking about and it's possible that you'll be allowed to play the players but their registration will be held by this company and when they are sold this company will keep any profit.

Only if Rangers decide they don't want him. We have already played Fetai and Martin Bain has said that after he has played a few more games he will be approaching AM for funds. He also said (not in relation to Fetai) that if Rangers and  RYD can not agree over the value of a player then the UEFA compensation scheme will be referred to.

"Old Father Tim" Oldfathertimspamul...@hotmail.com

Look at that last sentence and tell me you find it acceptable that your club would have to go to UEFA to gain access to your own young players. It's madness.

Doesn't it also mean that rangers will be competing with other clubs for their 'own' players.  Surely a stand alone company would be duty bound to accept the highest offer for  any player.

The objective of the company is to produce young players for Rangers and we will have first refusal on them.

"Angof" oan1vgo...@btinternet.com

I think refering to the UEFA scheme makes good sense. If Rangers want a player then they will get him as long as they are willing to pay the compensation. We will have access to the players before we decide wether or not to take them on, as we have had with Fetai.

Psychobudgie m...@guess.it

Correct. It makes a lot of sense as it insures that any money from players sold on to other clubs goes back into youth development at the facility and doesn't get lost in the main Rangers funds or lack of them.

Any money? Is this not a profit making company then?

I am absolutely stunned. I know that the ng has a clear history of rangers fans taking one side, and Celtic fans taking the other, but how this can be accepted as a great move for rangers is beyond me.
Lets put aside the fact that is it rangers, and I'm a Celtic fan and pretend it was any other club in the world. Would you honestly say it is a great idea? I wouldn't. It is the worst idea since Mr Hitler said to Mrs Hitler, "let's' have an early night dear".
I honestly think that what we have here is a group of rangers fans terrified to admit their club could make a mistake and because of that are willing to back them on anything. The only idea in football that I can honestly say is worse is where Leeds thought it a great idea to let private companies and banks own their players but still paying for them.
