Intrinsically male bastions, however, are regarded as fertile ground for cultural "re-education," and now even military spokesmen docilely toe the feminist line as expressed by one retired woman lieutenant: "In this modern era of equality of the sexes, [soldiering] has no gender." A pretty notion, but a falsehood nonetheless. The Forces need women in most occupations, but for combat purposes most women are inferior to men in both body and spirit; and most uniformed women self-select out of combat, just as most civilian women self-select out of other male-dominated high-risk professions.

Not quite. Historically they were male bastions, except stay at home child care, until the 1950s. Feminism allowed women to hijack these professions and guarantee a good salary for college educated women.
Women want equity, but only if they don't get their nails dirty.

Low paying jobs like childcare workers and teaching, are not generally appealing to men, who tend to want to make more money. And few men sue based on some king of inclusionary program like AA. That doesn't mean that the govt. "promotes" gender equity in one group more than the other, but rather, that one group doesn't show up.
Intrinsically male bastions, however, are In the military, depending on which branch, gender doesn't seem to make much difference. Where the standards include women, it need not make much difference.
Where women self-select out of an option, I don't regard that as discrimination, but, from what I can tell, women are purposely EXCLUDED from signing on for combat duty, as part of an invading force. In that regard, SAYING that women are inferior is more self-serving than anything else. As to where you say women "self-select" ...that is not discrimination. However, women can certainly sue, based on discrimination, where it does exist.

Teaching may be low paying in Podunk but in most places teachers are actually OVERPAID considering the low level of study that's required to get a teacher's certificate, the short school year, the actual days at work, the extensive benefits etc etc are not generally You're full of shit as usual poofy.
Hey, I'd put them right out there at the head of an invasion in skirts especially if fighting muslims. Perhaps they won't fire on a female and even if they do we'd only be losing our worst soldiers so who cares lol

Sure it does, if the government were *serious* about gender equity there would be quotas and incentives for men to become nurses and primary school teachers and child care workers but the actuality is that not only are there no such programs for men, in some of these deliberate obstacles are put in the way of men...try to become a delivery room nurse if you're a man...you won't be permitted to be yet there are no nursing specialties from which female nurses are excluded, try to be a guard in a female prison, you won't be allowed to be yet women can be guards in male prisons. I doubt that you will be able to find two day cares in the country that would accept a male...no Parg/Hyerdahl, there is quite a significant double standard that favours women whether your politics will allow you to acknowledges it or not...
That may be true in the US but not in Canada, we recently had a female infantry soldier killed in Afghanistan however she was one of the very few women who actually want to be combat soldiers and of those who do, even fewer can meet the standards required.

There is no double standard as to how AA programs work, Ken. All you have to do is complain or sue to be included. :-) If men are not suing it's because they don't WANT to be day care workers, nurses, etc.
If the standards are such that exclude women, then you cannot claim that women are self selecting. :-) It's just that simple.

You got that right! I think it's because they *want* women to be what they imagine they are so they CAN complain about them. It makes them feel all macho and superior and stuff. They WANT women to be clingy dependent wimps so THEY can take care of them and protect them and *guide* them. And then, when they do find such a woman, they whine constantly about what a chore it is to live with her and do just *everything* for her. And of course, when such women do actually grow a spine (now and then ) and leave their sorry ***es, they get to complain about how they have to pay her alimony and cs.
Well, duh. If they'd married a brain surgeon, THEY would be getting the alimony. Of course, most of them couldn't attract a brain surgeon in the first place.
