HG Free Dentists??

(25 Messages)

Joels inane ramblings have brought a question to myself for the group. What do you think of a DDS like mine who says "the ADA is in complete denial regarding amalgam safety"? It is easy to take crack shots at us non-dental professionals here but are individuals like this quacks, misinformed, out for money...? There are quite a few and building every day. My dad shared my testimony with his DDS. His exact words were "I was taught that amalgam is completely safe but am beginning to ...

What is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ADHDWhat is Attention - Deficit /Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)? ADHD is one of the most common neurobehavioral disorders of childhood and can persist through adolescence and into adulthood. Currently the causes are unknown. A person with ADHD has a chronic level of inattention, impulsive hyperactivity, or both such that daily functioning is compromised. The symptoms of the disorder must be present at levels that are higher than expected for a person's developmental stage and must interfere with the person's ability to function in different settings (e.g., in school and at home). A person with ADHD may struggle in important areas of life, such as peer ...

ADD Attention Deficit Disorder Hyperactivity ADHD HolisticADD - Attention Deficit Disorder - Hyperactivity - ADHD - Holistic What Are the True Facts? The vast majority of medical doctors consider Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) to be of unknown causes. Yet it's a known fact that the elimination of food additives and refined sugar produces dramatic improvements. Why haven't you been told this well-known fact? Considering the advertising revenues, it doesn't take a genius to see why the print and broadcast media have, for the most part, refused to publicize this vital information!

ADD interferes with the child's home, school and social life. Unable to screen out stimuli, the child is easily distracted. This usually intelligent child receives a label of being "learning-disabled" and finds the nervous system cannot be slowed down to focus long enough to complete an assigned task. Other symptoms may be head knocking, self-destructiveness, temper tantrums, clumsiness and sleep disturbances. ADD may exist with or without the hyperactivity aspect.

Medicine is a constantly changing science and not all therapies are clearly established. New research changes drug and treatment therapies daily. Temperament Types and Attention Deficit DisorderTemperament Types and Attention Deficit Disorder T emperament consists of the traits you were born with. It differs from personality, which is a combination of your temperament and life experiences, although the two terms are often used interchangeably. Temperament is determined by your unique neurological characteristics and unlike personality, it cannot be changed. It's like handedness. If you were born left handed, you will always have a preference for using your left hand, even though you can train yourself to use your right hand more than you otherwise would. If you force yourself (or someone forces ...

While doing research for this site a few years ago, I stumbled onto something called MBTI theory, a popular framework for testing certain aspects of temperament that has been studied for decades. In 1999 over 2 million people were typed using this method, usually as part of their job or for counseling. I took a quick online test, which I thought was really daft at first, but I decided to go along with it out of curiosity, and was told I am an ENTP or "Extravert-iNtuitive-Thinking-Perceiving". I had no idea what that meant, but I was floored by the description. "You mean, ...

Nashville Robertson schools face disciplineNashville, Robertson schools face discipline The districts will mail thousands of letters this month to parents of children in schools that failed to meet No Child Left Behind standards for two or more years, letting them know what happened and inviting them to transfer to successful schools. Metro sent 23,000 letters for the same reason last year, and only 42 children moved. The district offers transportation for families who make that choice.

Gloria Martin's daughter has attention deficit disorder and attends Hunters Lane High School, where she receives after-school tutoring to improve classwork and standardized test scores. Martin said school officials don't try to hide the school's high-priority status and keep parents in the loop about improvement efforts. They're "extremely good about communicating that to parents," she said.

Should parents really be pillpushersShould parents really be pill-pushers? I have a son with Asperger's syndrome (a condition on the autistic spectrum) and am currently resisting having him put on rispiridol. My son is at a mainstream school and can be very disruptive, but there is no alternative provision in our area for a ten-year-old who can converse at undergraduate level in his narrow field of scientific interest while needing remedial help with spelling and writing. No amount of reasoning with him over his behaviour has any effect because of his autism (his non-autistic sibling is well-behaved). I don't want him to take a psychiatric drug as a result of the school not being able to cope with him and because there is nowhere ...

I certainly agree with Jenny McCartney that this is a national scandal and well done to her for drawing attention to it. John Clare, who used to write about education for The Telegraph, pointed out here link in 2004 that there were "advantages for parents in having their children diagnosed as ADHD: most qualify for a non-means-tested Disability Living Allowance." And here link he draws attention to the concerns felt by the British Psychological Society about the increasing diagnoses of ADHD. My personal conviction is that children should be protected from ...
