Hello group members!
My name is Deborah Lafky and I am a researcher at the Kay Center for E-Health Research at Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, CA. I am working on a project to learn about what people want in the way of managing their personal health information. Our Center is concerned about obtaining the opinions of people in all life situations, especially people living with disabilities. I am reaching out to you as a members of this forum in order to get your insights.
I know that you are dealing with major life issues right now and might feel you don't have time to participate in a survey, but your participation is vital in helping us to understand what people with disabilities want and need, so I hope you will consider taking a brief half hour of your time for this important work.
The survey is completely confidential. At the end, you will have the opportunity of selecting a gift of your choice as our thanks.
Because participation is limited, I am requesting that people who are interested please email me. You will then be sent a link to the survey. I promise you will never be placed on a mailing list or receive unwanted email from us or the survey company we have hired to help us on this project. Your contact information will be kept strictly private.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the survey or the Kay Center or my project.
I hope to hear from you!

Yeah and what about the goofball comments that doctors have made in our records or were just plain wrong.
Will this mis-information be able to be used against them or just to track us by some outsider who thinks they know what is best for us?
Or used to punish the doctors that do actually help?

We can't fix everything at once, but with more control over your personal health information, you can at least obtain some power to submit corrections to things you think are wrong. And with control over access to your information, you can decide who views it and who doesn't.

Folks, I regularly take surveys. I've got it narrowed down to about three upfront and honest survey sites.
I am also a panelist in two regularly meeting (on the net) focus groups.
I emailed this individual right after the post first arrived in this NG and inquired about the "gift" that was mentioned and also explained about some pertianent criteria they needed to know about how some folks with disabilities access surveys.
I also explained that in order to respond to my email they/it/he/she needed to not just click the reply to button due to a spam trap.
While responding to NG questions there has been no response to the email sent to this poster's given email address.
Take it for what it's worth and go from there.

Dear poster, I have not received an email from you. Perhaps it was rejected by our anti-spam provider, Postini. Here is an alternate email address to try: dla...@yahoo.com.
For the others here: I would like to make you aware that our research group regularly works with disabled individuals and we know that some of you may require adaptive ***istance to participate in online surveys. Due to limits on our budget for this work, we can only accept participants who are able to complete an online survey using the existing adaptive technologies they have available to access the internet. This includes the ***istance of helpers and/or caregivers.
Anyone who cares to preview the standard rewards our survey partner provides can go to www.surveycafe.com/desserts.htm. For those people who prefer not to take advantage of any of these choices, we are offering a Target gift card as an alternate.
Finally, there is no "catch" here. We are sincerely interested in learning your opinions on an issue that is of importance to all citizens. We are vitally concerned that those who are living with disabilities have a voice on this issue and are taking all the outreach measures we can to insure that this happens.
I invite anyone who has questions or comments to contact me directly.

I doubt that an antispam blocked my email to you.
Good response though.
Maybe you should've included the rewards info in your original post?
After clicking your rewards link I came to a "The page cannot be found" link. I clicked into my favorites and brought up a differnt link to test my connection. Google came up. I clicked the previous link button and recieved the same message.\ Also your survey site is not one of the list of trusted survey sites I have been participating in for some time now.
There also may be questions of a spam violation here since you say you are a student yet provide links to a commercial enterprise.
This is not a newsgroups for business solicitations. We exist for those soliciting advice pertinent to individual cases. As well as other Social Security Disability related discourse.
I guess if you are a repeat to this group wearing a differnt sock the good Dr. Feelgood will be along shortly to point you out.
Folks, As someone who does take surveys and knows about the flood of spam and bogus invatations one recieves after submitting thier email address, I for one will be p***ing on this <sic> oppertunity.

List members, Please feel free to visit the Kay Center web site at http://kaycenter.cgu.edu, where you can learn about the work we are doing, including disability-specific research. Our sponsoring foundation is chaired by an individual who founded a company that has helped thousands of people with disabilities prepare and submit their claims.
I can understand that you may feel distrustful because there ARE lots of scams out there. But I hope that I have demonstrated honesty as well as respect for the list members by providing my personal contact information.
Anyone who wants to know even more can visit my personal web page at http://home.comcast.net/~dlafky.
We are working with a respected but small survey organization who are implementing the online survey for us. They are well regarded, and not at all interested in exploiting anyone. If you Google surveycafe, you will see good reviews from people who are members of their regular survey panel. We selected this organization to partner with because of their integrity and because as a small research group, we do not have the resources to program a complete online survey system all by ourselves.
What do you have to lose?

Sorry Jim but she checks out as 100% legit. She made a mistake with the address for the rewards. hard to tell if the mistake was hers or if the host site changed it. http://www.surveycafe.com/surveycafe/desserts.htm . She is even using her Comcast home connection e-mail address. She did not say she was a student. She said she is a researcher at the Kay Center for E-Health Research at Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, CA.
Many university and commercial e-mail servers will block incoming e-mail without 100% accurate reply to addresses. The use of spamtrap in yours would fall into the rejection category of many servers. You wouldn't see a bounce message because of your spamtrap.
I've done many surveys and some product testing myself. I have currently limited myself to one survey site and 2 product testing sites. Due to my participation in beta testing software and the NDA's I am not permitted to share who or where I do this. At one time I was doing surveys for more than 10 outfits and the Kay Center is one of them. They are very legitimate and back when I had them on my list they never ever generated any spam. When I left their list it was so I could help get a game ready for internet launch and I was sent one e-mail at that time telling me I was welcome back at any time.
The keys to good surveys and product testing are total honesty and following directions. Ms Lafky seems to be a sincere researcher to me.

As for the spamtrap in my addy, I have another account that I use for situations like that. Haven't used it in so long I got out of the habbit of switching over to it.
I think that surveys are a good way for folks like us, it isn't a fortune and large amounts should be reported when they come in but twenty bucks in the mail when you weren't expecting it can realy do wonders for the mood.
Well I guess "abled" folk would like it too ;-) Ok everybody follow me, I'm gonna go kill half an hour's time.

I don't know whether you're legit or not and don't really care since I'm not about to share any informaiton with any strangers. This is really for those considering useing this "survey" invitation. Especially see the data at the end of this post. I did do a parse on your headers, and, you are who you say you are, at least w/r to your email account. There-in lies a very real possible problem for you, and it makes me suspect you may be new to newsgroups and a lot of things here. Unless this isn't from you and is instead from your compromised account/s. See toward end of post for more detail on that. Are you aware that, by placing your actual email address in the Headers, you have invited (successfully) many, many spam-bots to pick up your e-mail address and add it to their distribution lists? On top of that, since you are actively posting from it, there is a preference for your address and increased value to the lists being sold because it is thus known as a "verified" address. You should NEVER use your real email address in the headers. The way to make your email address available is in the body of a post/mail, preferably munged, e.g. dlafky AT comcast DOT net or whatever format you wish. The sigs are a good place for such information and there are many variations of it. That type of address will NOT be picked up by the robots and crawlers that infest this and every other newsgroup on usenet and the world. For these reasons, it's my opinion that you likely mean well with your post, but you are very much an inexperienced newbie and that makes your credibility run way low in my mind. Using your email headers and your full given name, I have looked up your informtation and you are very likely one of two people I've come across in less than 5 minutes, one of them a published author in some of the same areas your post is about. One more step and I could have your street address and your phone number. Armed with that information, I could then spend $20 and get your full public court and legal background on you. It might even be possible to get your ssn and driver's license numbers. Then I would be able to impersonate you and steal your identity quite easily in many places. I'm not ranting; just hoping to make a few things clear for you since I suspect you may not be aware of any of these. Additonally, being a Comcast customer makes you suspect anyway because of their incredibly high rate of zombie infections they are doing nothing to stop. I won't respond to rants, and this isn't a rant; I hope you consider it in the manner I meant it, which is to be informative and nothing else.

I was simply pointing out it was the rewards site and not the actual survey site that had been posted. I didn't send the OP an e-mail to get the actual site for the survey. The information you input at the reward site is minimal needed to get your reward mailed to you. IE: Name, address, city state and zip code. Hardly enough information for someone to use to steal your identity. I suppose someone could sign you up for junk mail and catalogs but most people have that information readily available in phone books etc. { Sign up for a publishers clearing house contest and look at all the junk snail mail you will soon be getting in your mailbox.}
