My (not my wife's) son, 11, just came to live with us. (Wife, 2 other children also ours, 8, 12, yes do the math). I did not meet him til he was 8. His mother just passed away due to adv liver problems due to alchohol abuse. She was never married. He is taking Concerta 54mg for ADHD combo. He has been on Ritalin of some form since 1997 without any significant time off. I met with his doc. The medication is based solely on how his behavior was described by his mother. He said the meds treat sympt ...

Hi. DH has been on a business trip all week. I miss him a bunch. I want to get him a present. (In addition to the non material ones which come immediately to mind.) As a generalization (here you go Bill) do men like this? Or care? If so, what is a nice, not too expensive gift? He would be overjoyed if I got him a pool table. Last night on the local news here they were making a big deal about the restaffing of local draft boards. Not that there is going to be a draft anytime soon they said - they just want to be prepared if they needed one. Mentioned this to some of my soon to be graduated senior students this morning and they just laughed and said that being on Ritalin was going to keep them from ever having to worry about being drafted. ADHD Appears To Be Associated With Depressed Dopamine Activity In ADHD is the most prevalent psychiatric disorder among children, according to background information in the article. "Despite decades of research, the specific neurobiological mechanisms underlying this disorder still remain unclear," the authors write. "Genetic, clinical and imaging studies point to a disruption of the brain dopamine system, which is corroborated by the clinical effectiveness of stimulant drugs (methylphenidate hydrochloride and amphetamine), which increase extracellular dopamine in the brain."
Scans were performed twice, after injections of placebo and of methylphenidate; the participants did not know which drug they had received. Participants also were asked to report the severity of their ADHD symptoms, whether they could detect the drug, if they liked or disliked it, and if it made them feel "high," tired, alert, anxious or restless.
