There is no such diagnosos called addiction. There is only substance dependence or substance abuse deliniated by the specific substance. Substance dependence requires 3 of 5 specific signs/symptoms, abuse requires 1 of 5 and the signs/symptoms differ. There is no diagnosis for codependency nor will there be. It does not, nor, cannot exist as a specific disorder. The ways of perceiving and behaving commonly thought to be "coda" signs/symptoms are easily diagnosed as adjustment disorders. ...

Well, Comcast and I finally came to an understanding. Actually, I just gave in a networked my PC onto the cable modem. They said "Mac connectivity and usability isn't a high priority." Grrrrrrrr Anyway, you know about Amanda, so here are the rest of the updates. Micah has a diagnosis finally - three actually. He has migraines, major depression, and adjustment disorder. The depression was probably started by his Acutane therapy, the migraines are genetic (from Wendy this time, not me), ...

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: Description, Criteria Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), sometimes inaccurately referred to as ADD (There is no clinical term by this name) is a disorder usually first diagnosed in infancy, childhood or adolescence. There are 4 recognized types of ADHD. They are: Predominantly Inattentive type; Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive type; Combined type (inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity); and ADHD - Not Otherwise Specified. There is a high level of correlation between children with ADHD and other psychiatric illnesses. This included illnesses ranging from behavioral, mood, family, anxiety, cognitive, ...
It is widely thought that constitutional abnormalities play a crucial role in the genesis of these disorders, but knowledge on specific etiology is lacking at present. In recent years the use of the diagnostic term "attention deficit disorder" for these syndromes has been promoted. It has not been used here because it implies a knowledge of psychological processes that is not yet available, and it suggests the inclusion of anxious, preoccupied, or "dreamy" apathetic children whose problems are probably different. However, it is clear that, from the point of view of behaviour, problems of inattention constitute a central feature ...
What is Attention - Deficit Disorder? Attention - Deficit Every year the National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities (NICHCY) receives thousands of requests for information about the education and special needs of children and youth with Attention-Deficit Disorder (ADHD, ADD/ADHD). Over the past several years, ADD or A.D.D. (ADHD, ADD/ADHD) has received a tremendous amount of attention from parents, professionals, and policymakers across the country - so much so, in fact, that nearly everyone has now heard about ADD or A.D.D.. While helpful to those challenged by this disability, such widespread recognition creates ...

ADHD is one of the most researched areas in child and adolescent mental health. However, the precise cause of the disorder is still unknown. Available evidence suggests that ADHD is genetic. It is a brain-based biological disorder. Low levels of dopamine (a brain chemical), which is a neurotransmitter (a type of brain chemical), are found in children with ADHD. Brain imaging studies using PET scanners (positron emission tomography; a form of brain imaging that makes it possible to observe the human brain at work) show that brain metabolism in children with ...
Mental Health America: AD/HD and Adults In the 1970’s, experts began using the term “Attention Deficit Disorder” to describe the condition. While the condition is most often associated with children, there has been a more recent understanding the Attention Deficit Disorders (ADD, ADHD) continue into adulthood for many individuals. Symptoms such as inattention, impulsivity and over activity are now known to continue into adulthood for a significant percentage of children with ADD. Unfortunately, relatively few adults are diagnosed or treated for ADD.
The exact cause or causes of ADD are not conclusively known. Scientific evidence suggests that in many cases the disorder is genetically transmitted and is caused by an imbalance or deficiency in certain chemicals that regulate the efficiency with which the brain controls behavior. A 1990 study at the National Institute of Mental Health correlated ADD with a series of metabolic abnormalities in the brain, providing further evidence that ADD is a neurobiological disorder. While heredity is often indicated, problems in prenatal development, birth complications, or later neurological damage can contribute to ADD. There ...

On June 19, 2007 Shire signed an agreement with Renovo Limited ("Renovo") to develop and commercialize JUVISTA, Renovo's novel drug candidate in late Phase 2 development. JUVISTA is being studied for the prevention and reduction of scarring in connection with both cosmetic and therapeutic surgery; areas often paid for "out of pocket" by patients choosing elective surgery. Under the terms of the agreement Shire has the exclusive right to commercialize JUVISTA worldwide, with the exception of EU member states. Phase 3 trials for JUVISTA are expected to commence in mid 2008.
Children from Broken Marriages Twice as Likely to be Prescribed According to the Washington Post , 10% percent of 10-year-old American boys are on Ritalin or similar drugs. From my experience as a teacher I can tell you that there are some kids for whom the drugs are useful--I've seen it firsthand. On the other hand, for most boys it is useless and counterproductive. I've long campaigned against these drugs, and it seems that every time I discuss this problem on a radio show some aggrieved mother or father calls up and tells me that the school wants him or her to put their kindergarten or first grade son on Ritalin. It's an outrage. ...
I read about a school (women dominated) who threatened to suspend a student if the parents didn't aquiesce to doping the boy on ritalin!! I guess these women threatened the parents and boys in their school quite routinelly..and this boys father said wait a minute here!! A very good book on the subject is "prozack backlash" by joseph Glenmullen M.D It can be very usefull for fathers trying to protect their sons from moms insistance that the boy be put on drugs..
