That does sound like a lot. How long is his school day? My daughter is in 1st grade too, in a private school in No. California. She is in school from 8:15 to 3:00, the same hours she had in kindergarten there. She brings home spelling words on Monday, which she has to practice each night, and they have a test on them on friday. It's been about 7 or 8 words each week thus far. She also gets one homework assignment each night, yesterday it was to cut out a page of letters and make different words ...

Greetings everybody. I'm sending this post to the newsgroup, which my good lady wife sent to the UK autism mailing list; I'd be interested in comments. Thanks to all the people on the mailing list that replied that also post here. Ian ==================================================================== I have just collected Xavier from nursery in tears. It has took a lot of rocking and cuddling to get him to calm down and so I might not be seeing things clearly so I wondered if I could get some ...

Right, look. Let me make my position quite clear on this; I deeply regret the death of the Queen Mother. To me, the loss of her is the loss of a unique and irreplaceable part of that which I hold most dear - Britain, the most beautiful and wonderful country on God's green earth. However. This protracted, mawkish raking over of the occurrence again and again and again by the media - what does it achieve? The queen Mother is dead. The situation isn't going to alter one bit, no matter how many new ...

Free Behavior Modification Charts Catch the Ball Let the child draw a line to connect each ball when the specified behavior takes place. Depending on the behavior, this could occur for a single incident, or on a time interval (such as on the half hour) when a level of the behavior has been reached. For example, if the behavior is "raise my hand when talking in class," a ball would not be connected every time the child raised a hand. But the teacher could decide on the half hour that the child was making progress in this area and let the line be drawn, with verbal ...
If the child cannot read, draw pictures instead. Go over them to be sure they are understood by the child and make copies of the chart. Don't demand that all items be done each day in order to call it a success. You need to consider where you are starting from. For one child, having only 8 or 9 total "misses" by the end of the week would be a big improvement and warrant popcorn, a video, special sticker, etc. reward on Friday. For another child, only 3 or 4 "misses" might be allowed. This should be determined in advance. Be sure to also provide daily reinforcement ...
Individualized Instruction, Discipline, and Behavior Modification Withdrawn and disruptive students can make progress in an alternative school where they receive individualized instruction and attention with a system of earned credits and fines. The student body in an alternative school may be hetereogeneous, ranging from the borderline mentally retarded and learning disabled to the emotionally disturbed. Their ages can range from 13 to 19. However, the students have several factors in common: their personalities are out of control; they are seeking information about boundaries for their behavior; and they need success in a school environment. The academic work done ...
Positive Classroom Discipline, Chapter 13 - Behavior Modification Where do most behavior modification programs fit into positive classroom discipline? What about the use of extinction in the classroom? What about the use of highly specialized management programs for students with special needs? This chapter attempts to bridge what educators may already know about behavior management with the methodology that has been presented as part of Positive Classroom Discipline thus far.
During training teachers and administrators often assume that whatever is not explicitly included in positive classroom discipline is somehow excluded. Quite to the contrary, positive classroom discipline is intended to supply a basic framework for understanding the management of classroom discipline. It focuses on group management procedures that are both basic and highly cost-effective. But it does not presume to be a summary of the entire technical literature, nor does it implicitly exclude any proven technique. If you are using something else that works, hang on to it. You may soon need it.

If tuition were $100 per day for 180 days, then tuition would be $18,000. I wonder if the Pilot reporters responsible for this ...
Raising money for Louie's Kids Sixty-three children, ages 3 to 5, participated in a recent taste test as part of a study by Stanford University and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. When offered samples of food, one on a plain tray and the other in a McDonald's wrapper, the children overwhelmingly agreed that the sample in the McDonald's wrapper "tasted better." The food in the wrappers and on the trays was exactly the same. The research, which appears in Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine and was reported on by CNN, illustrates the power that advertising wields over us from a very early age. That's no surprise ...

Inaugural Health Conference Tackles Policy Making In terms of ambulance services they discussed the training of ambulance services and education of the general public in giving ambulance specific directions in terms of house colors, nearby landmarks etcetera. The group suggested that a community group take on the task of numbering houses and also suggested that police escort ambulance and persons who do not give way to ambulance be ticketed.
The third group spoke on behavior modification and advocated proper eating and nutrition. They discussed health choices and the importance of good health. They further discussed the role of the television and the radio in terms of children’s dietary choices and noted that children need to become more active. They emphasized that physical education courses should be enforced in schools but noted that it is becoming useless as a number of parents keep their children out of the class.

Parents who file an intent form can expect to receive critical program communications from the GaDOE in the coming weeks and months. In June, parents will be informed about the process of determining the approximate amount of a child’s private school scholarship amount, which is based on the amount of state funding the public school system received for that child in the 2006-2007 school year. On July 13, the list of participating private schools will be published on this site.
The Right For My Brother to Live A Decent Life I want to thank all of you for permitting me three minutes of your valuable time. It is true that this meeting could have been avoided if NYSED would have given the largest stakeholders, the parents and their children (who actually experience the aversives), time to speak at any of the previous meetings. It is also true that this meeting would have been unnecessary if NYSED had sent a fair and impartial representatives to the Judge Rotenberg Educational Center. A further opportunity to avoid this meeting at taxpayer expense was missed by NYSED ...
