I've already said many times that I think "tough love" is an oxymoronic piece of shit, but what's getting me lately is how quickly Laura will spike a call by merely referring the listener to tough love. Today a stepfather called about disciplining a child. Laura gave her standard advice that step parents shouldn't try to discipline (which I somewhat agree with). The guy persisted telling about the behaviour that needed discipling and then Laura, in a total non sequiter, referred the guy to tough love presumably to learn how to discipline which she just told him not to do. She said just look it up under "T" in your phone book. Did you ever try that? How many people can find "Tough love" in their phone book. Though the wretched organization is Laura's chief backstop for calls she can't handle, it remains a small, almost cultish, organization which certainly doesn't have branch offices in every town and city. What the hell is she thinking?

LOL...folks, can you imagine the "Jak version" of ROMPER ROOM...?? It would be run by Doktor Whora, Judge Judy, and Torquemada...Mother Goose would have her honkers trained to run around and bite the kidz...Cinderella's mum would make the kidz toil 24/7 for a bowl of gruel and a thin, cold, hard, bed...NO goddam Good Ship Lollipop for these lil' moppets....

It's another example of her complete disconnection from everyday life.
She has people who look things up for her, so when it comes to advising someone else to do something she's never actually done herself she falls back on what she supposes would work. Wouldn't she make just the best researcher ever? She is just plain stupid about how things work much of the time.

I know. After she mentioned Tough Love to callers a few times several years ago ("Oh, just look it up in the White Pages --they have chapters EVERYWHERE!"), I looked it up in the Chicago White and Yellow pages. Guess what? I guess that they are so popular and overwhelmed that their number is *unlisted* here in Chicagoland....
Another bit is when she refers callers to "social services", for everything ranging from unwed teenage mothers to freeloading, ****ed - up relatives, to elderly parents in need of care. I guess if any of us have a monetary/social/material problem, we'll just ringy - dingy up "social services" and all will be magically solved....
Then there is her phrase "get them a small apartment" (this crops up in calls re: errant bunchkyns, siblings, etc.). She'll say get them "a tiny apartment --
they have small apartments for a few hundred a month in your area, don't they?
Get them one of those, the bare minimum, and help them get a minimum wage job.
THEN the SLUT will learn RESPONSIBILITY!". Get real! A small studio in a metro area will run at least $500 (in my area more like $700...). Then there are security and utility deposits, credit and application fees...at the minimum, you're looking at $1500 - 2000 IF they qualify (and let's face it, a lot of the people she is directing this "advice" to simply won't)....
Oh, and don't forget her advice to callers to "Well, just call the police/a lawyer!". Uh - huh....
DL reminds me of what Patti Davis said about her mother Nancy Reagan's response when Patti questioned her about the rampant homeless problem in the Reagan years: "Don't be silly, Patti! If you are unemployed, get a job; if you are homeless, get a home!". No idea of how we common folk live our daily lives....

For as long as I have heard of "tough love" I figured it was the best way to make your kids hate your guts.
The concessions one would win out of one's kids would be short term, but the kid wold learn the best way to deal with the parents is with absolute ruthlessness - something the parents won't appreciate when the time comes to be put into a nursing home and the kid is making the decisions.
BTW - "Tough Love" sounds like some sort of S&M bar - maybe thats where Dr.
L goes to get her weekly cat-o-9 beating from a leather clad man named "Moe" ...

I moved into my HOUSE for $1300, including a cat fee. Not EVERYWHERE is as expensive as Chicago, Greg...maybe you need to get real. I moved from a place that was $400 a month including utilities. Yeah, it was small but it was cheap and it was livable. And it was safe.....people just didnt speak English around me.

I never said I hate kids, Snake.......I just think we coddle the Little Pukes too much and don't Blister their Azzes when they need it........No wonder why we have so many kids out of control shooting up schools and terrorizing Adults.........
