School Construction Bond Issue

(15 Messages)

Do you know that many new-hire teachers were layed off after the first ten days of school this year (WakeCounty) - because of declining enrollment? (Even in Cary, which had been leading the pack in growth for many years.) Last year, a new high school in Apex (technically Cary) opened up at one-fourth capacity... and even then, they had to import many kids from Garner HS, against their will, just to fill a few classrooms. The bozos at the central office don't recognize that as the jobs left the a ...

Tipton Academy Why TiptonTipton Academy - Why Tipton? Current Events... January is a month of big events for Tipton Academy. Our first Elite Honor student, Jon, has graduated and gone home. Before he left, he wrote an essay about his coming to Tipton: On March 24th, 2006 at around 4 in the morning, my life took a drastic turn. I was awakened by two Juvenile transports who threw a set of clothes at me and said “lets go”. At this point I did not know where I was going or who these two huge men were. As I was being escorted out of my home, my parents were saying something along the lines of “ You ...

Tipton Academy is different from other traditional academies for several reasons. The main difference is that Tipton Academy will take boys that are defiant and reluctant to be there. Another difference is the length of stay and the enrollment period. The majority of boys will be staying for one year. Tipton Academy has students coming throughout the year so there is not one set admission period, but ongoing admissions. This enables parents with a child in need of immediate placement to have somewhere to send them. Traditional military schools will ask a child ...

Parent Stress Study Results by Harold Longenecker PhDParent Stress Study Results by Harold Longenecker, Ph.D I address this letter to both the parent participants and to those individuals who were helpful in spreading the word of my project to others. I cannot thank you enough for all of your generous support. The response I received to my request for participants was tremendous, and I realize it represents a significant donation of your time and care. Without this network of support this research could not have been completed. Many parents contributed extremely useful commentary about their experiences, which helped to give life and context to the study's findings. Much of your ...

There is widespread recognition that having a child with autism is highly demanding and much speculation about the factors that might complicate parental adjustment. While the benefits of education are clear in terms of acquisition of skills, school can also precipitate parent stress and worry. Very little research addresses how involvement in an educational program relates to parent stress levels. The intent of this study was to compare how two commonly available types of training programs for children with autism are differentially associated with stress levels ...

Reading Writing and Pagan ReligionsReading, Writing, and Pagan Religions What's wrong with these seemingly innocuous classes, aside from the issue of separation of religion and schools? The kids were having fun as they learned, so what could be wrong? Plenty. By teaching religious mysticism, public schools throughout the country are filling impressionable young minds with group think, multiculturalism, paganism, Earth worship, astrology, polytheism (belief in many gods), and pantheism (belief in spirit gods that exist in trees, rocks, and water). The God of Moses is out in our public schools, and Earth worship is in.

In classrooms throughout the country, Judeo-Christian beliefs are cast aside or ridiculed. Multicultural studies, environmental propaganda, and arts-education classes now indoctrinate children with New Age religious beliefs, often without parents’ knowledge. Public schools sometimes try to sneak offensive spirit or new age religions into their curriculum without parents’ knowledge.

MEDICAL AND FITNESS NEWSMEDICAL AND FITNESS NEWS A June 2007 study by Dr. Mary Savoye and colleagues at Yale (Yale Bright Bodies Weight Management Program) proves that a sustained, multi-faceted approach can yield broad benefits. Overweight children from New Haven, who were 8 to 16 years old, were randomly assigned either to a control group that received traditional dietary counseling and six monthly follow-ups or to an active management group.

At one year, weight in the active group increased an average of 0.3 kilograms (vs. 7.7 kg in control group). Heights of children in both groups increased during the study. Body mass indices fell an average of 1.7 in the active group, while increasing by 1.6 in the control group. Body fat and insulin resistance (a marker for type 2 diabetes) decreased in the active group while rising in the control group.

Multiple Intelligences A Psychological and Educational StudyMultiple Intelligences: A Psychological and Educational Study Multiple Intelligences: A Psychological and Educational Study Matthew T. Murrah Dallas Baptist University Table of Contents Introduction The idea of individuals possessing intelligence has been prevalent throughout history. The Oxford English Dictionary defines intelligence as "the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills." Intelligence is originally derived from the Latin word intelligentia meaning the power of discerning or understanding. Of importance here is the emphasis on power of rather than power to. The term "power to discern or understand" suggests an ability used only periodically while ...
