Cultivating optimal parent coach relationshipsCultivating optimal parent -coach relationships By David Jacobson "What is the optimal parent-coach relationship?" That's what Positive Coaching Alliance trainers address during the Double-Goal Coach and Second-Goal Parent workshops we conduct throughout the country. The answer appears in the very names of the workshops. A Double-Goal Coach has two goals. The first goal is winning, and the second, more-important goal is teaching life lessons through sports. A Second-Goal Parent focuses on that more important goal - life lessons - leaving coaches and players to pursue winning. In my community, the backs of the coaches' shirts remind ...

Minden Quarterback Club gives support to teamMinden Quarterback Club gives support to team There’s a lot that goes into a winning football program. A team needs to have the right coaches, dedicated players and the support of the school and the student body. But another thing that is sometimes overlooked is that a team also needs a group of hard working volunteers to pick up the slack that the coaches and school sometimes can’t handle. That’s where the Minden Quarterback Club steps in. “The booster club does just what the name says, we give a boost to whatever the team needs, so they don’t ...

For top US gymnasts father and mother know bestFor top US gymnasts, father and mother know best And for Jana and Nastia, they've worked with their parents for so long, they really don't know any different. Nastia Liukin had other coaches — including her mother, Anna, briefly — but she's worked with her father since she was 8; she's now 17. Andrea Bieger began coaching her daughter after they moved to the United States 11 years ago, and the partnership just kind of continued through the years.

Andy Memmel and his wife, Jeanelle, own their own gym, but they sent their daughter elsewhere to train for most of her career. Chellsie would occasionally go to her parents for help — Andy Memmel put a training plan together for his daughter in 2003, when she went from being a late alternate at the world championships to a double gold medalist — but her parents were very careful not to push.

The need for Parent coachingThe need for Parent coaching And all this made me wander whether parents actually hold in a lot of frustration about not having the same freedom as before. I actually feel more freedom WITH my daughter. I’m learning so much from her even more than before and I’m 37 and she’s 9. We do so much things together. I never discourage her from asking me so much questions. When I can’t answer them, we find out together, a bit like a team. It’s really cool !
