http://www.parentcoaching.co.uk    The Parent Coaching Company has launched in the UK.
Parent coaching is for parents who want to raise happy, confident children and have fulfilling, balanced lives themselves.
Children change us forever. They alter our lives, our perspective and our priorities. They bring us love, laughter and fun along with anxiety, hard work and heartache.
At the parent coaching company we believe good parenting starts from the heart not the head. We coach parents in their own and their child's development. As parents we believe that we play a critical role in our children's development and they play a critical role in ours.
One of the great things about coaching is the power it has to help you reflect on your own parenting style, figure out what works and what doesn't and explore any barriers to achievement in an entirely new way. We support you in action and applaud your successes along the way, helping you achieve a better, more balanced life as a parent.

What about the two happy looking ladies on the "about us" link? If there's no other "Coaches" mentioned, I'd say they were it. Especially as they're both "Co-Founders" Has the whiff of "well intentioned and new" about it. Lucky Bath.

I'm sure that if you asked they would set up work shops in other areas of the country. Must businesses will try to accommodate clients.

You may not want to use their services - that's fine, but they had a business idea and thought they would give it a go. Everyone has ideas - its having the ambition to achieve it and launching which shows the determination. You never know, one day you just might turn to someone like that before going to Social Services!!

I would expect they would at that. I also expect that most of us here couldn't afford to pay someone consultancy rates +travel for one of them to do a workshop since their initial workshop was ??18 per head in a function suite. Maybe they'll start training up local branches and expanding it into franchises so you can go to your local parentcoaching course for ante-natal cl***e... Oh there's the NCT for that;) That wasn't the point I was addressing though. Initially from the site there are no signs that anyone involved is in any way qualified by any Body. Since then I found the http://www.parentcoaching.co.uk/aboutus.htm page that details the qualifications.
"Jo trained at Norland Nursery Training College and has 15 years experience of working with children and their parents. She is a graduate of CoachU and an accredited member of the International Coach Federation" Right, so she'd be a fully qualified nursery nurse from Bath's best Nursery nurse college then and has done something to get accreditiation from a *personal growth* corporation in Canada.
"Sharon is a qualified NLP practitioner, holds a certificate in counselling and holds a postgraduate diploma in facilitating emotional literacy. She holds a certificate in transformational coaching and is an approved Myers Briggs Type Indicator consultant. She is an accredited member of the International ***ociation of Coaches." Neuro-Linguistics I think, so a possible medical degree in something akin to speesh therapy (although a bit askew from there). Post-Grad Diploma... in what? Sounds like anger management type stuff to me. Myer-
Briggs is a temerament model knocked about by psycholigists and a useful model. It fails to mention who approved her to be able to read off the tick boxes on the modelling questionaire. The international ***ociation of coaches appears to be a self appointed body although I will gladly be proven wrong.
They appear to be backed by a Canadian company and have their credentials at least partly on display. They're launching something novel in the UK from the initial stuff I've seen.
I think they've made a mistake with the presentation though. The responses to their advert here were that the site gave no indication of who they were or what they do in any real terms. They give no obvious indication as to their backing or qualifications. And once you dig in to find out anything, you are hit by psychological terminology and qualifications that you can't recognise or understand and a feeling that they seem to be doing a very corporate push for what boils down to 2 people. So I'm left with the impression that they're aiming to attract corporate business or mislead me into beliving they're part of a corporation.
Oh, and I'm starting to come to the conclusion that they're spammers due to the complete lack of any response from them to indicate that they give the slightest damn about what has followed up from their post here.

On Sun, 27 Apr 2003 23:30:06 +0100, Warwick <much snipped> NLP is Neuro-linguistic programming - a fair bit different from speech therapy I tend to agree with you about the presentation - it's too glossy and it's interesting that the satisfied customers who they quote seem to be corporate high-flyers desperate to set aside a little time for their children.
The qualifications I can accept, but there's a lot of reference to parenting as a job that you can't train for.  So it would be nice to find a quick summary of the difference between training and coaching.
And perhaps a practical example of what happens in one of their courses.  Or perhaps even an external link to a site which explains coaching concisely, just to emphasise that this isn't something they've dreamed up on the back of an envelope.
Also you *can* train for parenthood to a certain extent - just think about NCT cl***es - but there's a valid point that you can't train for many of the most difficult aspects.  There is an important difference between training and coaching and, even from my rather superficial understanding of the topic, the coaching approach does have a lot to offer parents.  But I think these people sell themselves short, or at least sell the concept short, by not explaining why.
... since when they've followed up, albeit briefly, so I'll ***ume that they posted it here as an idea for comments, and they'll take my remarks above in the constructive vein in which they were intended Martin

It also calls formmail.pl. I haven't had time to bother to check if that formmail is a secure one or one of the 99.99% of open versions that a guy call Matt Wright wrote before the net was a place constantly attacked by spammers. Running formmail is suicidal anyway these days since even if it is a fixed version your server spends half its bandwidth saying "Bog off spammer we're secure".
Oh and looking throught the source.. info@ their domain receives the input of their forms :) Warwick

I haven't read all the website, but I think it would be a good idea if they had an example or two or parents they had helped.  One good case might be a parent who feels like the guy in the "relationship changing" thread.  I don't know if that is the kind of thing they do.
(FWIW, this is meant as constructive criticism - I'm very pleased to see that they are following this discussion.)
