we don't have to cheer the guy (personally I would give him applause) but booing would show no cl***.
HUGE game tonight.
Does Strickland (I'm ***uming from this morning news he is now with us) start over Spilt Milk Palacio ? If so, Starbury is gonna run circles around the old boy.
Good Man he...@letsgo.com
there will be wild boos coming from the stand, unfortunately.
bah. i can't even bring myself to care much anymore.
i dunno about circles.... granted we are the raptors, but strickland shut us down pretty good once or twice this season when we played against him....
"Holden" irchoo...@NOSPAM.com/rogers
Myself included. Cl*** has nothing to do with it.
"Scobes" n...@home.com
What exactly has Lenny done to deserve boos? Let's see, he took us to one shot away from the Eastern Conference Finals. He then took a team of complete scrubs on a 13 game winning streak, and almost upset Detroit in the first round, then he went through a terrible season of injuries and had this team performing better than Kevin O'Neill has over the last stretch, with significantly less talent.
He's one of the greatest basketball people in the history of the sports.
Booing him tomorrow night is an utter disgrace for the city of Toronto, and is going to make this entire organization look bad.
...
"Holden" irchoo...@NOSPAM.com/rogers
I didn't say I would boo him continuously, but I never got the chance to tell him how I felt about the job he did in Toronto.
He was a write off. I thought you had 'End Blue's', didn't you pay to sit through his utter disinterest last season?
Hell, I was in Detroit as well - and I blame him as much as Childs.
The injuries this team has right now are just as bad as last season, and we stink. This NG is ripping the team, coach and management for everything. And we have more wins than last season. While it isn't good enough, that's the situation.
Lenny deserves his send off. He let down this team, and the paying fans. He wanted out, he was glad to take his 5million and split.
He wrote *us* off, without a second thought.
He is a very nice old man, and is likely a wonderful grandfather.
A fantastic human being, and a great figure in the history of the league.
The history, not the present. But if you think booing someone who shouldn't have been coaching for 2 years is an utter disgrace to an entire city of people that don't giving a damn about a silly sport that people are paid to play, you've got to get some priorities straight.

i agree, i would't boo him. he did deserve to be fired, as does O'Neill unless the Raptors improbably catch fire and make some noise in the playoffs. Maybe it will take the firing of two coaches for the idiots in the media and in the boardroom of MLSE to wake up and notice the one constant - Grunwald.

He got fired. You had your chance to boo him last year.
Booing him now is as cl***less as booing Mark Jackson after he was traded.
Now it's time to boo the current coach.
Personally I'm starting to feel all warm and nostalgic about Lenny, Butch, Isiah, . . .
"Holden" irchoo...@NOSPAM.com/rogers
Which is the problem. They sucked too. Don't get snuggly.
I don't even want to go to tonights game. Marbury is going to tear them up, and some how Lenny will get the credit for beating us. That makes me sick to my stomach.
The sad thing is, I actually defended his hiring from Atlanta.
But go soft, the end result is that L.W. was a mistake.
And since 'cl***' is an informal usage of 'manners', I eat with my elbows on the table, too.

The booing was because they wanted him back. Amazing though since the trade was out of his control and he did not voice an opinion stating he wanted to be traded.

The following is from the notes at the bottom of this article: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2004030528 Wilkens showed some emotion while speaking with reporters before the game. When a Toronto Star columnist asked what kind of a reaction he expected from the crowd, Wilkens didn't answer. The columnist repeated the question and asked Wilkens if he understood it. ``I understand the question. I don't have anything to say to you, OK. I just don't,'' Wilkens said. When the columnist said he was doing his job, Wilkens responded: ``You're job doesn't include being vindictive.'' The columnist, a frequent critic of Wilkens during his time in Toronto, wrote a piece in Friday's paper that said Wilkens was to blame for Toronto's and New York's struggles.
Hmm... Freshf*ck?
"Scott" scottphNOSPA...@total.net
I'm sure it was. The basketball community HATES the guy. Just like I told you guys about Butch turning his back on him, yet how he gladly spoke to Doug Smith. How many quotes do you see in his articles? The ones you do see are picked up from scrums, not one-on-ones.
Good for Lenny. Fresh**** isn't a reporter, he is a spiteful man with no knowledge of the sport.

People booed him last year, when really they should have been booing the starting 5 and the bench and the guys dressed in suits. The team quit on him. You've listened to KO go on and on about how he can only motivate his guys so much and then the rest is up to them. Well, same thing applies to Lenny. He was coaching a team with the combined talent of Milt Palacio toward the end of the season.
Look at what GG is doing this year. Now we are rumoured to be going after another big guy after signing Glover and Strickland. Where the hell was all this help last year? We have 2 guys fighting for their jobs, so it's okay??
That's bullshit.
Last night against the Knicks, all of us courtsider heard KO say "I ****ing quit". WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? Baby lost his toys and wanna go home now? You are in the fight for a playoff spot and you give up? Insane. And you know what? He basically did. He did very little coaching after he said that and did very little in timeouts. He almost stopped calling plays.
This guy is a jack***. He isn't a coach...he's a parent coaching a junior YMCA team. That's the persona he has. He has made more excuses then Lenny ever did. Injuries? You have 2 guys out. Doesn't compare to last year.
You've won, what, 1 game in 11 or 12, most of which were against teams you should have beaten and, worse yet, teams you are fighting for a playoff spot with. That is totally unacceptable. You have the same talent, nay...MORE, that you did right after the trade.
Shoot us some more excuses, KO. Go ahead. Try and stop that dam from collapsing. The media is starting to turn on you (thank you Bill Harris and Doug Smith) and the real fans are beginning to come around as well.

I did sit through it, and I was more pissed at the players (you know, the guys ON the court that could actually do something about it?) than the coaching. He had no advance scouts, no video team, etc. His hands were tied.
Do you blame Lenny for having them lead most of the game in Detroit as well?
Do you blame him for making Childs think he needed to pop the shot?
What an idiotic statement. How can you say the injuries are just as bad as last year? We set a record last year. The team was decimated 4 or 5 times last year. This year, just this once (VC, AW, JR) are we as decimated. Vince is already back. AW will be back in just over a week (because he is a man), and Rose in a week more. Bosh has missed a few games. Big whoop. If this team is only 4 players deep, we have problems. I don't think we are. The talent level should be good enough here to sustain .500 (or just below) ball with what we had left. Now we have Glover and Strickland. There is no way that this team should be going 1-11.
As far as winning more games than last year, again, the injury situation is not comparable.
How so? Give me an example of how he wrote us off.
Ah..so just 2 years. So, the year he took us to that last shot in Philly..he was a good coach?
Hmmm. Makes sense to me that the winningest coach in basketball would purposely tank 2 years in a row. Absolutely. Has nothing to do with the talent on the floor and their lack of productivity. Nope. None.
Do us a favour and go back to calling the Fan590.

"Holden" pissoffand...@hotmail.com
Yes, I do. That is what I wrote. Childs did alright, but your HOF genius should be 'helping' the player out -- or coaching, or whatever it is you think Lenny was being paid for. Sleeping? Or maybe smirking?
And Lenny should have switched one of your buddies - Keon or AD - onto Corliss, as JYD was getting spanked. Because he had 5 games to work through and make adjustments, all the requirements you gave him to have success despite MLSE's poverty towards the Raptors.
If you had the ability to pause, take a breath, and read you would see the words "right now". Yes, VC is back, but he was out for a little while here. The injury situtation swelled up right around the 1 win in 10 games.
You want your cake and to eat it too. You blame the injuries, not the coach, for last year -- as he stood on the sidelines and smiled in lieu of coaching. KO has no backcourt or swing players (other than the MP, who gagged under the pressure last year) but it's KO's fault.
KO doesn't have the advanced scouting, etc. either. Yet this is all his fault. I never said KO was a good coach, but the team record was 0.500 until the backcourt and SF were out.
While it isn't an identical injury situation, it is occuring.
And I didnt' mention anything about talent. You are creating arguements I didn't make.
If this Well, the 2 years thing was me trying to cover up the fact that I defended the hiring. I was wrong. LW never should have come here. Nor should KO. This team has never had a real coach -- unless *you* happen to like Butch and that would likely be because you could buy him a Diet Coke after a game, unlike the new guy.
Talent on the floor, sure. But I never said that. I merely showing that I have no love for Lenny Wilkens. What he has shown is that 15 years ago is you give him a bunch of all-star players, and a 6th man of the year, and he can almost win something.
TIme p***ed him by. Your own argument shows it. If Marbury and co. felt like the coach was shown disrespect, so they play their ***es off --- how was any of that Lenny? I stated that Marbury was going to kill this team, I believe I wrote 'tear them up'.
Yep, it is about talent. But it wasn't Lenny. I'm sure in your world it's KO.
If Scott doesn't think it, or see it from the 3rd row, it never happened.
But if I want to hate everything to do with the team except for the godsend, and a couple of players that arent' with the team anymore, that is ok. That makes me a for fan life, uh huh.
"CyberSteak" sco...@DIESPAMDIEdrytel.net
Ah so it's true with regards to the "I ****ing quit" comment. It came up in Feschuck's article. I read that and thought...Ok...you can't be making that shit up. Apparently he wasn't. But it's totally odd. That is one of the weirdest columns I have ever read. He rips Lenny for half of the article (no doubt due to the dis he got the night before) and then goes off on Vince for the remainder of it. And yet, as it has been pointed out, time and again, he has nothing really negative to say about K_N.

tsmith9 ...@hotmail.com (teddd)
Scott, your obvious bias is shining bright today. I'm not exactly a fan of KO or his coaching techniques but the 2 things I do give him credit for is that he wants to win, badly, and he doesn't make excuses for himself or his team. Stubborn? yes. Has the tools to coach the NBA game? no. An offensive guru? no. Good at handling people/personalities? no.
So please feel free to list all these excuses you claim that KO has made when you state that 'KO has made more excuses then Lenny ever did.' Don't paraphrase, don't just throw out blanket statements, give us some direct quotes.
Lenny was the excuse King last year and his players quit on him. Deal with that instead of trying to slam KO unfairly.
"Scott" scottphNOSPA...@total.net
The play happened away from the bench. Childs admitted he "may" have heard people yelling at him, but he was in his own little world. To say anybody (and I mean anybody, not just Lenny) on the coaching staff misinformed a player seems a bit farfetched. The trainer's job is to keep track of fouls, point differential, and time outs left. In your argument, the trainer should have been fired.
And leave whom to deal with Ben Wallace? Hmm? Keon? HAHAHA....I would have loved it!
Vince has missed 9 games (according the the Raptors notes). 9. Nothing compared to last year.
Who did Lenny have? Hmm? I'm ***uming you are discounting AW, so that left Rafer. Whoopddddyyy-dooooo. There is a backcourt juggernaut!
Wrong. They have 1 advance scout and 1 video scout. They invested tens of thousands in it. That is 2 more than last year. There was even an article in a local paper earlier in the year about the video scout.
I never said KO was a good coach, but the team record was 0.500 That is acceptable? A .500 ballclub with a first team allstar, a guy people thought would fight for ROY, Donyell giving you double dips every night, a rejuvenated (at the time) Jalen Rose? Judging by the posts in here after the trade much more was expected. Certainly more than .500. This team has some speed that is rarely tapped and big men that are rarely used.
I've said it here often enough: The one coach I think did a tremendous job of "coaching" was Brendan Malone. Second best? Butch Carter.
Funny, both Houston and Marbury insinuated that the booing provided them some motivation.
This statement makes no sense. Earlier you claim that I was a fan of Keon Clark. Right then and there every one of your arguments should be deemed null and void.
And if the godsend is the Alvin Williams trade with Boston being called off, you are correct sir!
RFFL, Scott.

Who the hell DOESN'T want to win?? Well, except Baron Davis, evidently.
Again, I supported the hire at the beginning. Firey attitude, a defensive guy, somebody that would get in the players faces. Where the hell did he go?
But to say he doesn't make excuses for his team, I disagree. Jalen Rose has taken more personal heat than our coach has.
-It's very difficult to win any game you're playing, especially with a guy like Stephon Marbury on the other side, when their getting extra possessions. Let's face it, Chris Bosh, he's seen two games in a row when he 's up against big guys Kwame Brown, Etan Thomas, he's up against Mohammed, Kurt Thomas, veterans, big guys in league that really know how to play.
(note: Okay, so where is Arch, Bradley, Moiso, ....)
-We played six really hard halves. We just didn't play hard enough in the first half. I don't know why it happens, I'm disappointed it happens but it does happen and unfortunately it happened to us tonight in the first half. " (note: this is from Jan. 2.
