I've just watched the Brat Camp show on C4, and was wondering what other AFPer's thought of the kids, the show, and the whole approach to parenting? I found it all rather disturbing. My imagination was going overdrive during the show. What if I was there? What would I do? How would I react to the regime imposed by a bunch of weird american fascistic hippies? ( A wild sterotype, but could you really keep a straight face and call someone Stone Bear? Take a 15 mile hike for the reward of a Gatorade ...

I'm surprised not to have seen a single comment on this series appear. Can it really be that nobody else has been watching it? -- Dave Mayall

Brat camp In the new Brat Camp series, seven rude, spoilt and lazy teenagers from cosy homes in Britain are tracked as they get the shock of their lives in the US. Their parents, who have had enough of their offensive behaviour, have sent them to Turn-About Ranch , in Utah canyon country, a tough camp for troubled teens. This website reveals the stories behind the teenagers' troubles in The brat files and gives you a chance to hear from one of the no-nonsense, real cowboys who cares for the residents of Turn-About Ranch. There's a Chill-out zone (with ...
Troubled Teen at Sage Walk: School For Troubled Teen, Help For Located in beautiful Central Oregon: SageWalk’s licensed wilderness programs provide families with a safe and immediate intervention for youth between the ages of 13 to 17; through individualized treatment plans, open enrollment, ASAM drug and alcohol assessments , the opportunity to earn academic credit, flexible length of stay and therapeutic treatment recommendations. Upon graduation from SageWalk, families have the option to not only transition into a therapeutic environment (such as adolescent boarding schools or residential treatment centers) but also the opportunity for students to successfully ...
Testimonial - As he turned 13, my son was extremely angry, on a direct path to a life of misery, completely out of control, and I wasn't too far behind. If we hadn't found SageWalk he'd be in jail, or worse by now. Is he a perfect angel now? Heck no, he's a 15 year old boy, but he came home taller, stronger, happier, confident, self-assured, and knowing he loves and needs his family more than anything - and, 2 years later, those lessons are undeniably part of his core, he handles his anger better at age 15 than his dad did at 25, I have no fears for his future, and we owe it to SageWalk. ~Portland, Oregon~
Brat Camp A true therapeutic program is NOT a boot camp or a military school . Real therapeutic wilderness programs are very effective at changing troubled teens’ behavior and have been proven to show long-term results. Troubled youth can experience powerful personal growth in a structured, therapeutic program under the care of trained and licensed counselors and therapists. Brat Campers are NOT yelled at, physically disciplined or ever put in any harm or unsafe position.
By taking troubled kids out of their normal environments, they’re forced to face their past behaviors and choices and learn from them. With a group of their peers, they embark on a journey of personal and emotional growth, skill development, and challenging wilderness expeditions. In just a few weeks, children and teenagers have a new perspective on their lives and their families and hope for their futures.

Tim Elliott, reviewer Josh, 15, has drug-fuelled rages; Jemma, 16, is a serial shoplifter; Joe, 16, is a belligerent punk rocker; Alex, 15, is a binge-drinking bully; and Ed, 16, is a lying, drug-taking thief who steals from his mum. All deserve to be beaten with a shovel. Instead, their parents have paid a small fortune for them to attend Turn-About Ranch in the Utah wilderness, where, with a little bit of hard work and some old-fashioned discipline, they will hopefully be rehabilitated as caring human beings.
It's the start of the fourth week and the kids are at each other's throats. Alex and Jemma are fighting so much that Connie, the camp's ex-Marine Corps supervisor, decides to rope them together. Called "snapping", it's a technique used to break in wild horses, though it's unclear whether it'll work on less-intelligent creatures such as Alex and Jemma. Formulaic as it is, Brat Camp is entertaining and should provide no end of hope for parents who think they're doing it wrong.
Cheers and Jeers Jeers: To Fort Worth's once-a-week trash pickup. Summer heat brings flies and stench, and once a week isn't enough. My monthly bill certainly doesn't reflect fewer pickups compared to other cities' twice-weekly pickups. Jeers also for the many rules and regulations regarding waste disposal. Fort Worth is the communist East Germany of trash pickup.

Brat Camp: What Happened Next - 8:35pm What do you do when your kids are rude, aggressive, on drugs, stealing money, binge drinking and out of control? Send them to Brat Camp in the Utah wilderness! But what happens next - when they return home to normal life and peer pressure? Six badly behaved British teenagers were sent to a pioneering American wilderness camp by their parents in a final attempt to change their behaviour. They learned some hard lessons at Utah's Redcliff Ascent but they have been home for a year now - are they ...
Brat camp; the underlying cause. Anyone watching ' Brat Camp ' on the ABC? Take a group of terribl e English teens, put them out in the wilds of Arizona (or somewhere similar) on a ranch manned by Cowboys and watch the transformations occur. It's into its third week and some of the kids are really changing, but other have a long, long way to go. Is it all related to how 'delinquent' they want to remain, or is there more? It was Cassie who picked the 'other' problem. The food they are still being fed on the ranch is totally acidic. It might be capable of creating energy for them to work, but no wonder they are moody, ...
Brat Camp and The Healing Power of Nature Brat camp taught the Carter family a lesson that they hadn’t expected to learn. Their teen daughter Amy, diagnosed two years ago with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder , had been having a rough time in school. Her parents reviewed all the therapies possible, including Ritalin and Adderal but opted to work with a counselor who coached Amy how to manage her ADHD through behavioral techniques and awareness therapies. Though much improvement was made, the death of a close friend threatened her stability and Amy was still struggling with deep anxiety ...
Brat Camp: Good fun for everyone except the brats I decided to sit down and watch Brat Camp series 2 which bundles up 7 unmanageable teenagers from the UK to Turn-About Ranch in Utah, USA. Starting off they pretty much sit on the ground in a stone circle and sleep on wood bunks with sleeping bags, then move up to better accomodation if they act well. It’s quite interesting seeing the dynamics in action as they start trying to reform. Catch it on ABC, Thursdays 8:30 pm. Read about it here .
