I'm surprised not to have seen a single comment on this series appear.
Can it really be that nobody else has been watching it?

I keep on seeing trailers but its Explorers on a Tuesday, my only comments so far have been along the lines of well thats a good way to ensure a healthy relationship with your kids when they return, however as my housemate pointed out they probably didn't have healthy relationships with their parents when they left so it made little difference.
At some point I should watch it, if purely as a student of psychology (I bet they have a 'psychologist' pontificating on the finer details of how the young persons psychological well being is being fecked up, sorry, safeguarded, this week, and how their behaviour is being modified).
All of the trailers I have seen suggest to me that there will be some seriously screwed up kids when it ends, possibly more so than when they went in. Redfern claims to have an 85% percent success rate however, so perhaps ive misjudged, though those stats are from them and not independently verified.
The whole thing just donesn't sit well with me, but... I have only seen the juicy edits for clips and previews, so perhaps I can't judge.

I am amazed at the patience of the staff.
the programme is very good, the kids who went there all have different problems from anger management diffuculties to being an Uber stroppy little madam.
They are all truning round in a very positive way.
The trailers imply a kind of boot camp with drill sergeant, forced marches etc.
In fact there are challenges and rewards, it is all positive enforcement with very little bawling and screamin (well OK a lot but that is from the 'brats') Andy

Yep, I've been watching it - very interesting. I don't think there have been many adverse comments - hence the lack of a thread, I guess :) Neil

Cubs on a Tuesday, then straight round mate's house for video night so I've missed the lot.
From what I've heard sounds just what I need for my daughter !

I've been watching it and having a bit of a laugh! It's very much like Scouting in the way they're camping, lighting their own fires and then walking on to the next campsite. The staff are amazingly patient (but as they have unlimited time to do their job it's not surprising) and the kids do seem to be learning a lot, especially in terms of taking care of themselves and thinking ahead for the future.
According to my telly paper one girl returned home and rejoined the Police cadets so it has had some good. Have you noticed one boy involved was a Cub from the pics in the start sequence?

marches etc.
That they do, and that is all im basing my (mis)perception on.
Then that fits with a lot of good practice, if it works then that can only be a good thing.
I have to withdraw my comments until I have seen the programme.

I have to say that I was intrigued by their "tents". They seem to be nothing more than a sheets of poly ripstop fabric with eyelets in the corners, and probably quite cheap.
They seem to have quite a large floor area, but not much height, so might be ideal for a weekend camp but a bit Spartan for a weeks camp, however they could make good dining/cooking shelters.

The juicy edits and previews have given a VERY wrong impression here.
It looks like a very positive way to deal with problem teens, and uses HUGE amounts of our methods in its programme.
The whole approach is unbelievably novel. They have rules, and a zero tolerance of breaking the rules, *but* the staff never lose their rag.
they calmly explain that some infraction has a consequence, and impose that consequence. They deal with tantrums without batting an eyelid.
I want these people as leaders!!
Harvey wants us to send him to brat camp.

As I understand it their "tents" are those blue poly whatever stuff that you get for some ground sheets and covering your trailer. As they haven'y yet earned their rucksacs they have to wrap all their gear up in it and carry it on their back.
I enjoyed watching them make fire - as I have read about and tried without much success this method so it was good actually seen it done.
At the end of the 1st episode I must admit that when they were in tears etc after 1 day I thought what a bunch of wimps. That may appear hard but whilst they were in different surroundings doing new things that were pushing them to the limit these are kids who considered themselves to be tough and parent beaters etc.

Save on GL's risk ***essment, dig Harvey a hole to stand in. Much safer, the clip-er has no chance of falling and the clip-ee has to climb out of a hole to give chase.

You've met the little sod. How am I supposed to get him into the hole?

Dare I say it? Throw some money/beer/fags into it?

I've not met him, but surely placing a sufficient carrot (chocolate, video game, cd player) in the hole would induce him to climb in voluntarily?

I was thinking of how much they'd benefit from Scouting - perhaps a pity that they'd never have thought of doing such a thing themselves, and are only on the "brat camp" because they have to be!

I buy them for the group at Costco.
2x strengthened tarpaulin about 12 x15 feet is for ??12.
We use them for dining shelters, water slides, table rain covers etc.
