I think it was Simon that complained about how the rules stipulated "no family help" and how he was not happy to see Sydney making homemade tomato sauce/relish/something.
Anyway: I just read this on the website: ( re: Adelaide ) " This week Emily was left to run the restaurant without Nick as he headed off to the country for a family reunion with his brother and sister, who also work at The Red Sea." And if the argument is paid/unpaid labour, i'm sure your family would be doing more for you than a "regular" staff member, and maybe for less ( to help you get going ). Hmm..

Everyone knows the worst thing a business can ever do is to employ family members. Kiss Adelaide and Sydney goodbye. Adelaide was never in the running anyway, ever since they failed to show at the Sunrise outside broadcast in March. They will be the first to go regardless of how the public vote. They signed their own death warrant when they let down their fans on that day. I have no sympathy for them at all.

Wasn't it the Brisbane restaurant who fired that guy because of all the initiative he took...wasn't the woman claiming that he had no right to demand payment for work which was obviously voluntary?

there was nothing in the earlier footage to say that the homemade tomato sauce being prepared by the family was actually for use in the restaurant.
I think the footage, which was shown in an early episode, was more to show the Sydney couple's family life away from the restaurant.
Simon and Natalie are just a couple of whingers trying desperately to detract attention away from their own inabilities and that 'alleged' porn tape.
