Kindergarten Assessment

(25 Messages)

Julian goes in tomorrow at 9am for his kindergarten assessment. From what I understand, they just want to know what the kids already know so they can balance the classrooms with advanced, average, and slightly behind-the-curve kids. As far as I know, they've never prevented a child from entering kindergarten based on the assessment. I'm pretty sure that Julian will fall into the advanced group on verbal stuff and right around average on everything else, so I'm not worried about his "passing ...

More Schools Rely on Tests, but Study Raises Doubts By GREG WINTER For full story, go to Rigorous testing that decides whether students graduate, teachers win bonuses and schools are shuttered, an approach already in place in more than half the nation, does little to improve achievement and may actually worsen academic performance and dropout rates, according to the largest study ever on the issue. With calls for accountability in public education mounting, such make-or-break exams have become c ...

School testing

Results from last session are out, and reported in Star-Bulletin Am not surprised that Hawaii is choosing to use its own test rather than the SAT which is normed for the nation. Hawaii's kids have a cultural bias against themselves inherent in the test, and the results show Hawaii's scores pretty much the norm. Ie the SAT is designed to be tougher for Hawaii's kids culturally, and it will always be normed. It's like a normalized curve. It will not show whether the kids meet or do not meet standa ...

Reality TV Magazine Brat Camp Contestants AnnouncedReality TV Magazine: Brat Camp Contestants Announced What would you do with a teen who curses at you, breaks the law in your house and doesn't listen to anything you say? That's the dilemma facing nine families dealing with out-of-control teenagers - whose ages range from 14-17 -- and with issues from ADHD to drugs, promiscuity and fights, in ABC's new reality series, "Brat Camp," premiering in two back-to-back episodes, WEDNESDAY, JULY 13 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

In the special two-hour premiere, we meet the kids as they arrive at SageWalk, learn about their issues and see their defiance in action, as they're confronted for the first time with the harsh realities of camp life. Forced to hike 10 miles with 40-lb. backpacks, the kids celebrate Thanksgiving in the wilderness without family, and with the ultimate question being whether they'll make it home for Christmas.

I Graduated From quot Brat Camp quot True Stories Eyewitness NewsI Graduated From " Brat Camp " | True Stories, Eyewitness News I'm 16 years old. This past January, I was sent to SageWalk , a place for "troubled" teens, which is now being featured on the reality TV show Brat Camp . SageWalk's mantra is: "Committed to bringing harmony and laughter back into the homes of families by offering help for today and hope for tomorrow." Being a teenager is bleak for a wide array of reasons. For starters, there is approaching adulthood and the consequential desire for freedom, which is impossible because your parents are still responsible for you and any consequences your actions result in. This leads to thoughts of rebellion ...

I was no different than other teenagers as I followed my path of destruction. But, I had the added pressures of having switched schools more times than average - three times throughout elementary, twice in middle school and twice in high school. Because of all that moving around, I never really had the chance to make any true friends, so I always felt like an outcast, and like the only way I could get attention was to act out.
