Reliving High School for Life

(16 Messages)

I've said in this newsgroup that I was rejected in unnecessary, cutting ways, laughed at, teased just so I could be humiliated yet again. It's all true, but I'm still living out that high-school age script. Nobody does that to me anymore. They haven't done it to me in many years. When I was in my mid-twenties, I asked young women out, or at least down to the corner so we could get to know each other ??“ one in a museum, another in a laundromat. They still said no, but they weren't mean about it ...

(13 Messages)

Contrary to what many people believe, hypnosis is not the harmless little experience that many in the profession would like for you to believe. While light hypnosis may be relaxing and enjoyable, with the subject in full awareness and control of his or her actions and thoughts, stage hypnosis is a different breed of cat. Stage hypnotists have special training in hypnosis which makes this process a very powerful weapon in their hands, a weapon which can be used to create entertainment and excitem ...

Tennis prodigies feed off one another39s successTennis prodigies feed off one another's success Vierra understands the track Rooney is on. She also played at Thayer Academy in middle school, but when it came time for high school, she chose to join the Evert Tennis Academy in Boca Raton, Fla., to help develop her skills. She was an elite soccer player and also played basketball. When she gave up team sports, she was ready to give her time fully to tennis.

Jillian Rooney may be 12 years old, but that doesn't mean a teenager can't learn from her. Rooney, of Canton, always finds herself looking up to older tennis players at the Weymouth Club. Little did she know that the older players have been watching her, too. Rooney is "really talented," said 17-year-old Erin Vierra of Norwell. "I sometimes look to her because she just throws herself into it everyday, and it's good to see. I wasn't like that at that age. She's going to be really ...

"I just really want them to be grateful for what we have, to recognize it as a gift."

Rocket Science Charming But Not Quite EnoughRocket Science: Charming, But Not Quite Enough Rocket Science centers on Hal Hefner (Reece Thompson), a meek high schooler with a serious stutter and a wrecked home life. After embarrassing himself by going mum during a school assembly, he's recruited for the school's debate team by Ginny Ryerson (Anna Kendrick), the state debate runner-up who's still nursing the wounds from being abandoned mid-finals by her former partner, Ben Wekselbaum (Nick D'Agosto). Ginny tells Hal she sees real potential in him, and he falls completely for her ploy, never thinking that Ginny ...

From the opening scenes, the central idea of Rocket Science is that on the night Ben Wekselbaum stopped speaking at the New Jersey state debate championships, his voice started slowly making its way toward Hal. And it's an appealing idea, because Hal is obviously smart and witty and easy to root for; you want him to be able to tell the lunch lady he wants pizza without suffering through two minutes of "um"s and "uh"s first. Basically, you want Hal to get what he wants, which is 1) the ability to speak clearly and 2) Ginny. Thompson and Kendrick deliver nuanced performances ...
