I asked this a few months ago and wasn't very specific.
I was wondering what are the best High School teams for Heavy weight are in the USA And if possible which of these are in the Midwest area, more specifically Michigan.
Are all these Schools Private, or are some of them public schools.
If none are Public what do you think are the best public schools in the area.
Sorry for the specific Questions I was just wondering if I could go see one of these teams at one of the regattas our public school goes too (Located in West Michigan) Regattas we are planning to go to: Grand Rapids Regatta (LOCAL) Hebda Cup (STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS) Midwest (Top teams in Midwest Region-Our biggest Regatta) Canadian Henley's (First time our school has gone to these-This will Definitely have the best teams)

Below is the list of high schools listed at RowingLinks.com (http:// www.rowinglinks.com/usa/highschools/) in or adjacent to Michigan -
***uming you mean the Lower Peninsula. This list is certainly missing a lot of high schools. I know that the Wyandotte Boat Club (http:// www.wyandotteboatclub.com/) has several high schools rowing from their club not listed.
It has been 40 years since I rowed at Culver Military Academy (now Culver Academies) in Indiana and I am very much out of touch with the competition now. Back in my day the high school that was best in the Midwest was Marietta, Ohio. The Detroit and Grand Rapids areas of Michigan both have clusters of rowing along with the universities at Ann Arbor and Lansing which, I suspect, have high school rowing at some level.
My advice would be to contact one of the contacts listed and ask them about the best high school programs. Wyandotte would probably be the best one to contact given that they sponsor a lot of high school rowing, even though I suspect you are near or in Grand Rapids.
I know there were a few high schools in Chicago that rowed and suspect there are more than the one listed. Likewise, I believe there are probably some in South Bend, Indiana.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the great Website I will definetly use it in the future.
I am a little from Grand rapids Area.
One of our schools greatest rivals is OLSM (Orchard Lake Saint Mary's) Have they always had a good team or just the last few years?
Thanks for the great info

I see from the Orchard Lake Saint Mary's web site that they started rowing in 1988 which was 20 years after I left the Midwest and returned to Florida. They are in a most affluent and beautiful part of the Detroit area and have a most impressive campus so it is not surprising that they would be very competitive.
I did row at Ecorse Rowing Club in my summers and rowed the 2 seat in the 1968 heavyweight national champion eight. The down river clubs like Ecorse and Wyandotte were getting kids from the steel mill area that dominated the area at that time.
During my high school and college years there were very few high schools in the Midwest that had crew. When I was rowing at Culver about half our races were against the freshman crews of various colleges due to very few high school crews.
Things have changed very much for the better now in terms of opportunity for kids to get started.
Have fun and row hard!

Have you taken a look at the results section of Row2k.com? This can provide an idea of where high schools stack up nationally. As a general statement though, I believe that the major powers in the midwest and west coast (generally, there are exceptions) are clubs rather than high schools. If you have the ability, going to see the Cincinnati Juniors or Lincoln Park Juniors (chicago) would provide some great rowing to watch (I believe they attend the midwest championships). Don't limit yourself to just watching other heavyweights males row either, lightweights and women provide excellent examples of rowing as well.
