Don't tell me you just got through listening to a Jack Benny program and their advertisements got your mouth so watering for a Lucky Strike that you have to go out and find one now?  Buy one of those delicious flavors of Jello instead.

I think you can still buy Lucky Strikes.
Here is a web site that purports to sell them...
http://www.otdirect.com/content/product.asp?product=LUCKY+STRIKE&cat=... I am non-smoker, so I have no knowledge if this web site is for real.
Use it at your own risk.
My question is, "What ever happened to Roma Wines?", the Suspense!

The American Tobacco Company, maker of Luckies, Pall Malls, and (Herbert) Tarreytons (with the genuine cork tip for the unfilters, and the filters with "dual-ring" charcoal filters - Us Tarreyton smokers would rather FIGHT, than SWITCH), was purchased by the Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company about five years ago.
B&W makes Raleighs, Kools, Viceroys, and Bel Airs...
Other Am.Tobacco Company brands that were popular over the years included filter-tip Hit Parade (which was also the name of the 1930's thru 50's radio and then TV "top-40" weekly wrap-up music program, sponsored by Lucky Strikes)... and Menthol Filter Montclair (I have a Twilight Zone episode from the final season 1963/64, with Montclair commercials, and a Pall Mall commercial from another final season TZ episode!) ATC->B&W still makes Luckies...
The NON-filter 70mm version (with L.S./M.F.T. is still printed on the bottom panel of the pack, along with the words "It's Toasted" under the words Lucky Strick cigarettes in the red circle on the front/back of the pack...
In the mid-60's, Am.Tobacco added a filter and menthol filter version... those versions were probably discontinued after a few years, but in the 1980's (and still made today) is a Lucky Strike (lights) Filters, King and 100s).
I mostly smoke Montclair menthol Light 100's (which B&W didn't really take over, but rather a small company called Commonwealth Tobacco), but I do occasionally purchase a pack of Luckies, Pall Malls, and also Liggett's Chesterfields (Kings), Philip Morris (which the original non-filter version is now called "Commanders") Kings, Kool non-filter version, non-filter Camels (also 70mm)...
I *THINK* that P.Lorillard still makes Old Gold non-filters, but I haven't seen them sold locally in YEARS...
And, I hear the radio commercials (and see the TV commercials) for ALL of these (and other) cigarettes ALL THE TIME, on tapes I have of old radio and old TV shows! And occasionally, various (AM) radio stations doing "OTR" will sometimes allow or "accidently on purpose" allow the cigarette commercials to slip thru!

Well, they ARE still around, and I am a smoker! :-) (and NOT ashamed of it!) I my earlier post, I mention that I occasionally buy a pack of Luckies!
Yeah, what ever happened to Roma Wines of Fresno California!?
I know that The Man in Black (Joseph "Mr.Wilson" Kearns, and a perennial bit-part actor on NUMEROUS radio/TV shows and movies in the 40's/50's and early 60's, especially Beaver and Ozzie and Harriet) p***ed away in 1962 or so (Gale "Mr Mooney" Gordon, another radio/TV/movie perrenial in the 40's->80's took over as John Wilson, Joe Kearns "Mr George Wilson" brother, when Kearns died, on the Screen Gems / CBS-TV "Dennis the Menace")....
But WHAT ABOUT AUTOLITE? Are we still "always right, with Autolite"???
We are still on the NBC Radio Network's MONITOR BEACON, from http://www.monitorbeacon.com though! :-) MARK_J._CUCCIA__PHONE/WRITE/WIRE/CABLE:__HOME:__(USA)__Tel:_CHestnut-1-2497 WORK:__mcuc...@mailhost.tcs.tulane.edu|4710-Wright-Road|__(+1-504-241-2497) Tel:UNiversity-5-5954(+1-504-865-5954)|New-Orleans-28__|fwds-on-no-answr-to Fax:UNiversity-5-5917(+1-504-865-5917)|Louisiana(70128)|cellular/voicemail-

Yes sir! You bet! Tear and compare! They come in six delicious flavours and sweet as a nut .. oh, wait, I'm getting my Benny sponsors confused.
Now, if someone can answer whatever happened to Basil Raesdale.
I could tell you, but I won't. I want to keep you in .. SUSPENSE!

LOL! Same Here! Every time I pick up Life, Look, Time, and so forth, I see the ads for Luckies, Chesterfields, Coke-
the Pause that Refreshes, and those GREAT Chevy BelAirs, Ford Skyliners, Ford Fairlanes, and the news articles of the latest news (with pictures, esp in Life and Look) of the day - the innauguration of Eisenhower, the surrender of the Japs, the execution of Ethel (NOT Mertz! :) and Julius Rosenberg, etc!
And I hear these same news-stories from the radio networks, reported by Alan Jackson and Douglas Edwards, Lowell Thomas, Edward R. Murrow, Chet Huntley, Fulton J. Lewis, Don Gardiner, Paul Harvey, Walter Winchell, H.V.Kaltenborn, etc! :-) Everytime I turn on MY radio... I hear the Columbia Broadcasting System, the National Broadcasting Company (Red Network), the Mutual Broadcasting System, and the American Broadcasting Company (formerly NBC-Blue)! :-) MARK_J._CUCCIA__PHONE/WRITE/WIRE/CABLE:__HOME:__(USA)__Tel:_CHestnut-1-2497 WORK:__mcuc...@mailhost.tcs.tulane.edu|4710-Wright-Road|__(+1-504-241-2497) Tel:UNiversity-5-5954(+1-504-865-5954)|New-Orleans-28__|fwds-on-no-answr-to Fax:UNiversity-5-5917(+1-504-865-5917)|Louisiana(70128)|cellular/voicemail-

A friend of mine's father used to smoke them, so I know they made them at least up until a few years ago.  I remember he had to go to one of those shops that specializes in tobacco to find them, because they were really apparently really hard to locate.
I'm not a smoker, myself, so you can't go by me, though.  :) This raises a question:  was Jack Benny a smoker?  Off the top of my head, I don't ever remember seeing a casual or snapshot-type picture of Jack where he had a cigarette.  Does anybody know if Jack was a real-life smoker, or if that was strictly an "on-the-air" thing to please the folks at the American Tobacco Company.

jgben ...@vcn.bc.ca (Jim Bennie)

He smoked cigars (which he received gratis from American Tobacco) but not cigarettes.

Let's take this a step further. Whatever happened to Chesterfield cig's. I've never seen them on store shelves. Here's another question I have: Glenn Miller was sponsored by Chesterfield from December 1939 to September 1942.  He was reportedly so serious about the commitment to his sponsor that, when seeing band members smoking other brands, he would put a menu or some other item over the pack so as to retain the impression that "Everybody who smokes 'em, likes 'em".
When he left Chesterfield and went into the Army, did he continue smoking Chesterfields?? I've yet to find this obscure piece of trivia covered anywhere.

The fact that you have to bring up the fact that your are not ashamed of it, should tell you something.
There most certainly is nothing to be PROUD about being a smoker.  Is there?

jgben ...@vcn.bc.ca (Jim Bennie)

Mel Blanc, in his autobio, tells of how tobacco sponsors use to send people around to hector people on-set who didn't smoke the right product.

I am really sick of sanctimonious, holier than thou people making comments about smokers.  Whether I smoke or not is none of your business.  If I were a smoker, then you are exactly the type of person I would envelope  in smoke.  Hey, jerk, don't you know every time that you go outdoors you inhale more pollution than having 10 smokers sitting next to you.  Use your influence (you must have a lot or think you do) to stop the damn pollution that is slowly killing you.
If I were a non-smoker, I would be observing your sins. You are perfect, aren't you?  Guess you just like to throw the first stone from the gl*** house.
Obviously, your comment shows your ignorance of other people's rights.
Go live on a mountain, oh, sorry, there is a lot of pollution there. You really wanted to jump in to insult, not to make a contribution to the thread, just to deride another person.  Are you afraid you might be sullied through the internet with smoke?
We have now moved from racism to intolerance of other people.  What in the hell happened to nice people discussing OTR?

jackbe ...@aol.com (JackBenny)

Which also caused an interesting problem with Jack Benny.  Although he didn't smoke cigarettes, Mary did...and she preferred Parliaments (not an American Tobacco company).  As one of the clauses in Jack's original contract with American Tobacco stated that Mary could smoke any cigarette that she wanted.

That's funny In answer to a previous question.... Chesterfields are still available and the package looks about the same.
Chesterfield over and over again Chesterfield satisfy women & men Milder much milder, most smokers agree always buy Chesterfield,  A----T----C (that's close, isn't it?)
