Dear Sir or Madam, I am currently writing my final thesis at the University of Applied Sciences Hochschule Anhalt (FH). My final thesis deals with the evaluation of translation memory technology in business. One part of my final thesis is a questionnaire trying to estimate if translation memory technology is used or not.
Therefore I want to ask you for your help. The questionnaire contains only eleven questions and it won't take longer than five minutes to answer those questions. It is important to know the opinion about translation memory technology of as many as possible translators and companies to achieve a representative result. Each one of you would be a big support for a successful finish of my studies.
I would be pleased if you take the time to fill in the questionnaire.
For further details and the questionnaire point your browser to www.tcats.de/tm Of course you can answer the questionnaire anonymously. Your email address was chosen by coincidence and won't be stored, used or p***ed on to third parties.
Thank you very much for your efforts.
Bettina Br??ckner PS: If you like the questionnaire, please forward this mail to any further translators or translation companies.

I took the questionnaire, but I couldn't make head or tails of question 5.

I took it to mean, "what percentage of your business consists of updates and revisions to previous translations?" Steven

It's not very clear.
I think they mean how much of the translation work consists of updates to documents (you have) previously translated. This would make sense in the context of translation tools.

What is the difference between "economic[al]" and "financial" translation?

"Albert Gomperts" albert.vanl...@skynet.be

"(General) economic texts" are the fantasy of university lecturers who have never done a commercial translation in their lives. Every year Belgium's translation schools turn out a few hundred graduates capable of translating "general economic texts", the only trouble is that there a very few customers for "general economic texts". If you want find out exactly what a G.E.T. is try reading some of the advertising features highlighting obscure regions of Europe in the weeklies. Right, you get indigestion after the first five lines, and yes it doesn't make much sense.

On Tue, 25 Mar 2003 10:00:21 GMT, Steve M -remove despam before rr for I've played with that interpretation, but then thought, if they can't make a decently formulated question, then they shouldn't expect a decent answer - so I left that one blank.
