When do you get military academy? I just discovered SpaceFlight - I got Military Tradition a long time ago.
Still no academies.
What gives?

Did you try reading the civilopedia?  There's a lot of information there which is useful.  Under "small wonders" you'll find the listing for academies.  In order to build it, you need to have 'military tradition' and must have had an army victorious in battle.

Basically, you must use a "spontaneous leader" (one which appears sometimes when an elite unit is victorious) to form an army. Then, that army must have at least one victory.  Then you should be able to build it.

but inclomplete and in this case wrong, too.
Even if you made the respective research, you only can build it if you got minimum one Leader before, that happens very rare.
But then you get the ability to build the academy in same turn as the (not documented) wonder "Epos".
Then create with the leader an army and you can build your academy.
Also not documented is, that an army cannot be bigger than 3 units and you can't upgrade the units after building the army.
So an army makes little advantage only, it's like a unit shaving the attack/defense from 3 units. That's all. You can't hit more than 1* (like you can do i.e. with a tank. )

No, it answers his question correctly.  I'd recommend that you try reading it as well.  There are things in the civilopedia which have been changed (try the readme- another wondrous document full of information) and there are things missing entirely, but it WILL answer most of your questions.
Like the one originally posed here about military academies.
If you'd read the civilopedia you'd know that all the necessary information is there.  Take a look.  It says that you need a victorious army and military tradition to build a military academy, and if you don't know how to build an army you can click on the word within the entry for academy and see what that entails (a leader).  Very useful.
Once again you should read the entry for 'army' and see that it says it can normally hold just 3 units, but this can go to 4 units if the Pentagon is built.  It's all right there.  You are right (for once) that it makes no mention of not being able to upgrade units within an army, which is pretty annoying.  But this has nothing to do with his question, which as I said is answered very well in the civilopedia.
I have yet to lose an army, while I have lost plenty of individual units.
Yes, I do trade off the multiple attacks of the individual units for one big attack which is unlikely to fail.  There are situations where this is useful.  You can make your own decisions about how useful this is.

In mine, it says the military academy requires that you have a victorious army, as well as military tradition.  Seems pretty complete.  No problem in building it once I got my army into battle.
Yes, you must get a leader, and to do that you have to fight a lot with other civilizations, using elite units.  That is in the manual :-)   "Epos"?  You mean Heroic Epic?  That is in the civilopedia, and it mentions needing a victorious army too.
Both manual and civilopedia cover that one, so I don't know how it isn't documented.  Upgrade issue is covered in the readme.  Besides, you can have it 4 units *if* you build the pentagon, which requires that you build three armies.
It is fine on defense, as the enemy will hit the army and die, unable to overcome its hit points, which *are* added together, easily.
On offense, you can use it to take out one very tough unit, for the same reason.  Also, if the army is entirely mobile, it *might* be able to attack more than once -- one made of entirely tanks, for example.
Even if not, the high power still can come in quite handy.
