Behavior Problems

(8 Messages)

Seemingly without regard to the nature of a behavior problem, advisors responding to patients pleading for help upon this news group almost without fail initially direct them to a veterinarian. It is true that a serious medical problem might cause behavioral changes, but far more prevalent is that medical problems are caused by continual stress and anxiety endured day after day by dogs who are subject to mistreatment. Stress and anxiety induce excessive production of various hormones, body chemi ...

Adopted shelter cat now has behaviour problems

(9 Messages)

We got a new friend for 18 month Timothy after the loss of his soulmate a couple of months ago. Maddie is 9 months old and she was in the shelter for just a couple of weeks. Her previous owners would give no history, they handed her over and said if the shelter didn't take her they'd leave her in the ditch (shelter is in open countryside). When we visited the shelter, Maddie was extremely affectionate. She sat in my arms the whole time and purred and head butted. She wouldn't play much in her li ...

Military School Military Academy and Military CampsMilitary School, Military Academy, and Military Camps Military schools do not provide an in-school treatment program as a general rule. These services might be contracted through a private practice while your teen is at a military school, but the schools aren't equipped for teens with emotional or behavior problems. Military schools don't have a solid follow-up program and support system needed for troubled teens and their parents. Programs of a confrontational nature have been proven to create more problems for troubled teens.

Military Schools Troubled TeensMilitary Schools - Troubled Teens Military- based schools for troubled youth are effective alternatives to traditional military academies. These schools will accept your child even if he/she is not willing to go, and only in extreme cases, will he/she be expelled. Be a fillin for failing parentsBe a fill-in for failing parents And then there's this, and I've said it before: Detroit is Ground Zero for nearly all problems facing black Americans, partly because of the large concentration here, partly because those problems are exacerbated in Detroit by the economic and education crises gripping Michigan. Our high school graduation rates are low, our illiteracy rates are high, and our brightest children are heading out of the state like rats from a sinking ship.

When Cosby returns for his next Detroit visit this fall, he wants to encourage people to work directly with children whose parents are not parents. He wants to encourage the creation of a league of mentors, former military officers, retired teachers and tough guys who can work directly with youth, particularly boys, to offer them structure, guidance and a kind of hope they are not getting at home. A legion of Detroiters already do this -- separately -- in as many as 500 programs, none more worthy than Communities in Schools, Big Brothers Big Sisters, ...

A project of the Insitute for Policy StudiesA project of the Insitute for Policy Studies Early Sunday morning after a marathon session, Congress put a blue ribbon on the immense hog known as the defense budget and declared it a winner. Just before going on their August vacation, the House approved the 2008 defense appropriations bill of $459 billion. The vote was 395 to 13. With the nearly full support of the Democrats, the Bush administration is on the verge of pushing through a $40 billion increase in military spending for next year.

Much was made of the battle between Congress and the administration over this bill. After all, the administration's request was actually a few billion dollars more, and the White House has opposed many of the congressional changes. In reality, the House sliced off only the smallest amount of pork -- less than 1 percent of the total -- and redirected it to social programs. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) went after some of the more blatant earmarks and has even challenged pet projects of his Republican colleagues. His amendments were overwhelmingly rejected. (One of those earmarks, inserted by Speaker ...

Military Boarding Schools The Gift of DisciplineMilitary Boarding Schools: The Gift of Discipline Some teenagers have managed to make it into their teen years without much having been denied them. Spoiled by harried parents or neglected by indifferent parents, the troubled teen has experienced very little in the way of discipline. When such a teenager is placed into a military boarding school, the shock can indeed be mind altering. The teenager with excess makeup will be made to remove it. A sneer or an attitude will not earn the defiant teenager street creds in a military boarding school. Rather it will earn ...

How Can You Distinguish a Budding Pedophile From a Kid With RealHow Can You Distinguish a Budding Pedophile From a Kid With Real July 22, 2007 How Can You Distinguish a Budding Pedophile From a Kid With Real Boundary Problems? By MAGGIE JONES http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/22/magazine/22juvenile-t.html?_r=1&th&emc=th&oref=slogin In the early 1980s, a therapist named Robert Longo was treating adolescent boys who had committed sex offenses. Their offenses ranged from fondling girls a few years younger than they were to outright rape of young children. As part of their treatment, the boys had to keep journals — which Longo read — in which they detailed their sexual fantasies and logged how frequently they masturbated ...
