Nothing like that...I have a 12 year old who had trouble in public school and now has trouble in private school so I'm thinking of throwing him to the wolves (i.e. military school). It's either that or he drops out and works around the house with me....which should last less than a week before he begs to go back to school.

Gabba Gool guatemalange...@aol.com

Yeah, that whole "sitting around and drinking beer" thing would really dissuade him from your daily work.  ;-)

Shinner myem...@someserver.com

Ok, well, he'll work while I play foreman. I'll have his *** painting the house (we'll start on the inside since it's winter), washing windows, mopping floors, scrubbing toilets, washing dishes (the old fashioned way, not by his mother's definition, i.e. loading the dishwasher) and any other shit job I can find.
I'll show him what ****-ups who don't think school is important end up doing for a living. I'm at a breaking point and I've had enough.

Being a housewife?  Jeez, no wonder your wife loves you so much!  ;-) I have no idea what I'd do at this point, I'm not there yet.
Certainly can't ****ing wait.

Hey, I didn't say I do these things now...but if I have free child labor, things are gonna get done.
It's a real joy, I'll tell ya. How do you make a 12 year old understand that school is important. We take away everything he likes and ground him...it doesn't make a difference. He sees no point or need for school.
Now if he were some sort of musical virtuoso, maybe you say ok, go to a Juliard type place. Some kids aren't scholars, but at least they give it a try. This one just refuses to give a shit about anything related to school and has a HUGE problem with authority (ok, so maybe he does take after me a little).

If he could type I'd dictate all my emails and usenet posts :)

Hire him a cute looking tudor.  Seriously though, does he like sports?  Is there one subject that he does like?

I love that movie!
He was playing basketball....2 marking periods in a row failing math, I pulled him from the team. He was warned after the first F.
He does pretty well in a couple subjects. One is social studies and the other, amazingly is religion.

Shinner myem...@someserver.com

Whadda ya think, he's not familiar with the language arts?  :)

Is he rebelling because he was pulled from the team?
So it's not like he's lacking in intelligence, more like motivation.  Do they have any Sylvan learning centers near you?  I don't really know what they're about, but my son was very fortunate to get a teacher in fifth grade who was previously a teacher at a Sylvan learning center.  I don't know if that was the reason why, but his interest in studying and learning went *way* up and so did his grades.  He's been all As and Bs ever since.

No, I don't think so...The whole story is, last year he failed math the last marking period but had enough of an average to p*** with a D. This was his first F, but the grade went downhill all year. The teacher did **** all to let us know how poorly he'd been doing. So this year, I put him in the same school his little brother goes to. So far, 2 marking periods, 2 Fs (and an F in science during the 1st marking period, which he managed to "bring up" to a D). So, he was warned by me after the first period that if he didn't bring up both Fs after the 1st marking period, he was done basketball. Plenty of warning, no concern on his part.
That is exactly it.
He started at Sylvan almost a month ago (for math)...his first test after starting he got an A and was very proud of himself. Next test, back to an F (which his teacher told him had many stupid mistakes because he rushed and didn't check his work once he was done). This I think is his problem (no attention to detail, doesn't take his time, yadda yadda yadda) but there's not a damn thing I can do about it.

Oh but there is!  You'll need to work with him EVERY day and work with his teachers to make sure he knows his ***ignments.  Talk to his teachers.
Don't wait for parent teacher conferences.  Get a system between them and you where you will know EXACTLY what he has to do for ***ignments.  Require your son to prove that he's completed his homework every day.  You might need to do this until his grades come up again, then you can back off and see if his willing to maintain his grades.  Kids have homework just about every day, so don't take no for an answer.  If he says he has no homework, give him something extra to do or get him to work ahead, that way if he *does* have homework, it might jar his memory and he'll actually prefer that over something you've ***igned.  Whatever you do, don't give up.  Just a few suggestioons that have worked for me.  Oh yeah, let the kid have some breaks if he needs it, especially some rest time when he gets home from school.
Good luck and I'll shut up now.
Rick
