Does anyone have a suggestion for a good parenting magazine? I currently get a gift subscription from my grandfather to a magazine that I don't read, and I was thinking of suggesting an alternative, for when he goes to renew it (as he does every year). It seems like a good time to suggest it, without sounding ungrateful. Sara

Scene 1: Department Store I'm riding up the escalator to the second floor and hear this bloodcurdling scream: "NOOOOO! I DON'T WANNA!!" (scream) and more (scream). As I get off the escalator, the source of the excruciating noise is revealed. There's a moo and duh in the children's clothing department and their 6 or 7 year old girl is having a complete meltdown. She reminded me of Goldilocks, all dolled up and hair curled. Moo is holding her hand, looking exasperated. Duh is just standi ...

Jewish Parenting - Judaism and Raising Kids - How to Raise Parents spend thousands of dollars a year in tuition to send their children to our school where, along with calculus and chemistry, we are expected to teach some semblance of ethics. Then, on Sunday, the parents take their child to an amusement park and lie about his age in order to save five dollars on the admission fee. To save five bucks they destroy a $15,000 education.
Our best day school and high school principals have included separate ethics courses in their school curricula. A handful of these educational experts have gone even further, weaving an ethics perspective into every aspect of their schools' educational program. All of these curricular and extra-curricular programs constitute heroic attempts to provide our children with the highest quality Jewish education. It is hard to imagine what more the brave pioneers of these programs can do to improve our children's character.

'Today' Double Standard: Ban On Trans Fats - Good, Ban On Breast Dr. Nancy Snyderman: "Well, hi Meredith. This is one that I think is going to cause a lot of conversation today because it's always been a divisive topic among parents, whether to give the breast or bottle. But in New York it may be the government that's stepping in to make the choice for new mothers. It's one of the touchiest turf battles in parenting, bottle versus breast. And it's gaining new steam."
Snyderman: "Hey Matt when it comes to your health and you and I talk about this a lot, it's very important to remember that what you eat is what you are. And if you eat foods that are high in trans fat well you better pay attention because the harm they do is very real. Want a donut, a French fry, potato chips? They are all popular American foods but they may not be for long. Trans fat, a critical ingredient in all of them has suddenly become public health target number one. California attorney Steven Joseph launched ...
Bill to keep babies with inmate mums wins backing Parliament's law and order select committee today heard more evidence on Green MP Sue Bradford's bill, the Corrections (Mothers with Babies) Amendment. Currently mothers can look after their children until their babies are six months old. Adequate facilities and parenting education would also be provided for the inmates mums, under the legislation. The Human Rights Commission today said ...
