Story line: Buffy's worried when Dawn starts HS in the new school built on the site of the old one. When Dawn almost immediately starts seeing dead people, she finds that she's not alone - not only is Buffy fighting on her behalf, but two new friends, Kit Holbern and Carlos Trejos, wind up fighting the demons as well. Also, the new principal Robin Wood seems to be looking out for them as well - but only time will tell if this is a good thing or a bad thing... 'Principal Wood' - A hot, well dressed African American man, 30 years old, he is the new principal for the newly-rebuilt Sunnyvale High School. He seems committed, comp***ionate and on top of things; he is aware of Buffy's "checkered past" and also has apparently read up on some of his other students, like Kit and Carlos. When Principal Wood successfully gets Buffy's commitment to work at the school as part of their outreach program, he behaves just like any devoted public school educator who's just gotten a new parent recruit...RECURRING (7) 'Kit' - Legal 18, emancipated or G.E.D., to play 15. A Goth girl who looks like trouble, she's discovered by Dawn in the bathroom sobbing after having seen some dead people. Creeped out but still functional, she's happy to find that Dawn believes her, but soon becomes terrified for her life when both girls crash through the floor to the basement. Kit joins Dawn and Carlos in their fight for their lives against the angry, resentful dead people, and it's clear that the three of them are going to be good friends...PROBABLE RECURRING (15) 'Carlos' - Legal 18, emancipated or G.E.D., to play 15. This big high school thug appears menacing at first when he runs into Buffy, but later he's scared to death when he winds up in the basement with Dawn and Kit and a bunch of gross and malevolent dead people. Carlos joins forces with Kit and Dawn as they fight for their lives-probably not for the last time-and eventually become friends, destined for a very interesting high school experience... PROBABLE RECURRING (17)

Are these dead people vampires or zombies or something else?

OK.  These are, or at least purport to be real spoilers taken from a casting call.  So they need spoiler space which I will give it after simply top-posting my own view that this is lame, lame, lame.  In fact, because it was simply posted without any explanation the first time, I thought it was an unusually tired and predictable fanfic written by someone who was too lazy to write a proper fanfic but who couldn't resist publishing the really cool (not) idea they'd just had.  I cannot say how much I hope this spoiler turns out to be false.
But just in case it's not: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 In article <postmaster-BBA350.22351208072...@netnews.worldnet.att.net>,  -----  Posted via NewsOne.Net: Free (anonymous) Usenet News via the Web  -----

Sounds intriguing but worrisome at the same time.  Where are the regulars cast members during all this...

Well, they probably wouldn't be mentioned on the casting call for new characters, so I'm not too worried that we won't also get lots of Recovering Willow, Souly Spike and, erm, Buffy The Outreach Person. Yay, the universe's most selfish person is going to help struggling teens... still, I'm hoping this won't all be as terrible as it sounds (even though the above sounds like Dawn building up her own Scrappy Doo team <shudder>).
On the plus side, if the new Sunnydale High is built on the same location as the old one, we might get some stories related to closing or opening the Hellmouth, which could be interesting.

I agree.
I do too.  Except the "Robin Wood" thing, which has the potential to be so unintentionally funny.

There is one good possible outcome of this storyline.  Perhaps the Key, when leading lost souls into the spiritual light, will get lost there herself, and be unable to return.  I can dream, can't I?  I agree, this story idea is too lame to really be true.  Although, I didn't believe that Riley would return married, or that Spike and Anya would actually have sex.  So, what do I know?

Spoilers for 7.1 below....
This sounds wretched.
They say that the first episode really sets up the whole season. So I guess the whole season is going to be about Dawn's emergence as an evil fighter.
They've finally made a Scrappy gang as a compliment to the Scooby gang. Had to happen, but Dawn effectively stops it from being any good.
A black principal named Robin Wood? It's too offensive to actually be true, I think.
This plot sounds a little too much like I Only Have Eyes For You, at least in bare outline.
I do like the resurrection of the high school. The series just wasn't as good without it.

This is consistent with the Buffy year one stuff that they have been saying.  It also makes good business sense if Sarah Michelle Gellar is leaving the show and they want to set up a Dawn spinoff.  BUffy demographics have been aging and they posted their worst 18-35 age group number last season.  This may be a bid to get a younger crowd to watch the show.
However, I personally don't have a desire to relive their high school days.  I wanted them to return to the wit and humor but not high school.  The new characters will just take more time away from under utilized characters like Xander and Anya.  I wonder if other fans are into this ot not.

I don't like it, either. One episode would be OK, but not a whole season. The show is about Buffy and her friends, not Dawn.

Me not, obviously.  And I agree that this plan (if it is the plan) would simply turn the folks I tune in to see into a single, conglomerated Watcher.  Their stories would become the side issue.
And if they want to give me another reason to dislike Dawn, they've chosen the perfect one to make me hate her utterly.

It's hard to imagine this as part of BTVS, more like a spinoff series.

They may feel that the internet fans who express these opinions do not reflect the opinions of all viewers. Or they may want to expand beyond the current fans.  May be they want to create a more family oriented show. I think think they will play down Willow's sexulaity next season.  I'm not interesting in a show featuring Dawn.  The Dawn thing never worked for me and I never bought the whole "summer's blood" thing.  I though that only Dawn should have been able to close the gate. Dawn may not be a new slayer.  Maybe her keyness gives her the power to fight evil.
My guess is that they will resolve the Willow thing in the first couple of eps and then conentrate on Dawn and Spike.  Buffy will prolly be a mentor for Spike.  Willow will prolly return to be the hacker/scientist of the group.  Xander and Anya prolly won't do much.
This strategy may work to get them new viewers or it may work to lose them viewers.  While the spoilers may not be completely accusrate, I preety show parts of it are true and they are definitely casting folks to be Dawn's friends.

Part of the problem I have with this is that they seem to be suggesting that the principal is a potential villain.  Now we know that the government of Sunnydale knows about the demons.  So if they hire someone who knows about the supernatural as they must, it suggests that either he agrees with their goal or is a damn good actor.  If he's corrupt then I think it's more likely that they're corrupt still, that they haven't shaken off Wilkins, totally or at all.  If the government's corrupt then the poice are corrupt and it seems likely that rather than being punished Warren at least and maybe Jonathan and Andrew would be recruited for their brains and skills like Faith was for her muscle.  If Warren wasn't going to be punished for double almost triple murder then Willow's going after him is far more excusable(already totally excusable in my mind) than it was originally.  Of course that could be their plan.

Oh, I'm sure that pretty much is the thinking.  It's just stupid is all.  I still have grim memories of when this type of "business sense" decided to expand the fan base of Earth: Final Conflict.  By the last season the show was airing at 2:00 a.m. with barely a fan left to its name.
The fact is that BTVS is cult show.  It will never have a broad base or dramatically high ratings.  This is frequently true of SF/fantasy shows.  In fact, it's almost always true.  The one big exception was X-Files.  Unfortunately, that exception has led "business sense" to think they can always have their cake and eat it too: have high ratings and still keep the loyal, generally well educated and well heeled fan base that good SF/fantasy shows pull in.  X-Files, however, was a fluke (and I, for one, still don't understand its appeal), and the odds are at least 999 to 1 that the improvements suggested by "business sense" will simply alienate the old fans while the remnants of the original show will prevent it from becoming a ratings hit.

I do. It appealed to the same people who read Weekly World News, and for the same reasons. X-Files was an exception to the general rule that reading (or watching) SF requires *thought*. Which is not to say that it was a mindless show, only that it wasn't *necessary* to be able to think in order to enjoy watching it. Sorta like Rocky and Bullwinkle, which kids could take at face value but also had all kinds of double meanings, puns, and subtext for adults.

Given what happened earlier this month to the Cross & Stake site, and give the, erm, interesting nature of some of these spoilers, I kinda think we're seeing Joss' version of a *canary trap.
At least I hope so. The names alone would be enough for the concept to work --
and since I can't even *read* Principal Robin Wood w/o giggling, I do so hope that's what's going on. I'd surely hate to have to listen to the Scoobs say it for an entire season. LOL *canary trap -- Tom Clancy literary reference. A procedure to ferret out leaks from within the government by giving out multiple versions of a cl***ified document (in this case, a script summary or shooting sides) with each party suspected of leaking stuff having a slightly different version. The govt. then waits around and sees which one shows up on the nightly news or in the papers, and, voila! They've found their leak.

Mileage *really* varies on this one -- my first ***ociation was to the artist Robin Wood (the "People of Pern" portrait artist), because I've met her. Didn't even catch the pun until the second or third time I saw the name because I had the real Robin's face so firmly in my mind.

I'd rather have closure with the characters that are left rather than spend what could be the last season introducing a bunch of new stuff.
If they do spen a lot more time on Dawn and her firends, it'll be interesting to see what the ratings do.

cardw ...@yahoo.com (TheBaron)

That is my thinking on it, as well.  The idea about a SMG'less BTVS were mentioned by UPN in article I read on Yahoo.
