YMCA fliers banned from school Ad promoting basketball camp mentions 'Christian principles' December 11, 2003 Not known as an overtly Christian organization, the YMCA has come under fire in Bakersfield, Calif., where a school district banned the organization's promotional fliers from its campuses. The local Y can no longer send fliers home with children because a recent one happened to mention the organization puts "Christian principles into practice," [GASP!!!!!] reports the Bakersfie ...

A nice bit of info on a Celtic fans love to hate

(25 Messages)

Narry a mention on this list or the newsgroup regarding the much maligned Walker and his most generous, caring and compassionate nature off the court. Why so? I suspect if it were Pierce that were selected as one of the most generous athletes in all of sports, there would be a venerable love fest going on. ____________________________ The Celtics' own Antoine Walker has been selected in The Sporting News' special issue which honors the most giving athletes in all of sports. The Celtics are very ...

North Jersey Media Group providing local news sportsNorth Jersey Media Group providing local news, sports But after 34 schools requested reconsideration within the permitted time frame, the Board of Directors will reexamine the issue during its Aug. 9 meeting in Indianapolis. At that meeting, the Board could opt to rescind or reaffirm the rule. If it is reaffirmed, it will remain in place at least until January when a final vote will be held during the NCAA's annual convention in Nashville. However, if any changes are approved at next week's meeting, the rule will be immediately rescinded and coaches will return to unlimited text messaging.

Many coaches and some players favor a compromise of some sort, whereby texting is made equivalent to phone calls, and only permitted during certain periods of the year. Some coaches, for example, support allowing texting during April and May, when the colleges are looking ahead to the heavy summer recruiting months. Texting could then be made off limits during the summer and resume in late fall or winter.

Summer Odds and EndsSummer Odds and Ends Just adding to what you wrote. Both Kellen Sampson and DeAndre Thomas are regulars at the restaurant I work at and Kellen has been in Bloomington for well over a month. More importantly, you're correct on DeAndre Thomas. He looks slimmer every time I see him. The weight difference from when I first saw him at the Adidas May Classic to when I last saw him last week is VERY noticeable.

When I read between the lines with the Eli Holman story, I'm convinced that IU is extremely confident that Holman will be declared eligible by the NCAA Clearinghouse and that the basketball staff was satisifed with the SAT score Holman was able to get on one of the final times he took the test. I just don't think Kelvin Sampson and his staff would ask Holman to come to Bloomington, sit and wait the entire summer, and take summer classes, if there was any chance that he wasn't going to be declared eligible. My guess is that it's a formality more than anything. ...

Cornerstone Basketball Camp UpdateCornerstone Basketball Camp Update!! It's been a few weeks since I last made an update. I hope that everyone is doing well during their summer break. If you're in summer school right now, stay positive and focused on what you need to do. Hoopers, remember, Summer Time is "Individual Improvement Time." In other words, this is the only time when you can actually be "selfish" when it comes to basketball. This is the time to improve your game. How many hours are you putting in each day? Are you lifting weights? If you're not putting in the time, then ...

Podcast 115 I39ve Been Tagged 8 Random Things About MePodcast #115 - I've Been Tagged - 8 Random Things About Me Hello. I've been tagged - in an edublogger sense - by two fellow bloggers : Charlene Chausis in Illinois and Kenneth Y T Lim in Singapore. Thanks for the tag and I'll try to meet the challenge. If you listen to the podcast it has some additional information about the list not included in the blog post. It's not really about education, technology or history but is was fun to create. First, I have to post the rules. _______________________________________________________ This is another meme experiment: 1. We have to post these rules before we give you the facts 2. Players start with eight random facts / habits about themselves. 3. People ...
