A friend of mine was telling me about a test program out in San Francisco where alcoholics in recovery are given very minute doses of LSD.Then the doctor talks with them, and the pt. and doctor get new insight into the pt's problems..My friend said he might have seen it on 20/20...This whole idea sounds very dubious to me but I want to give my friend the benefit of the doubt..Has anyone heard of LSD being given in any such recovery program?

Yesterday I finally got to the point where I could not seem to force myself to do anything. Life has been pretty difficult since both DDs are off living their lives for the time being. (I am not used to being an empty nester yet!) DH has become increasingly negative & always was very demanding, I have reached the point where it is a great effort to deal with him kindly for the most part. I know he is dealing with depression, he sees life going by & he is getting older--heading for 50, &a ...

Why do bright, intelligent young people, who have everything going for them, embark upon a journey of self-destruction? Why do they purposely hurt the people who love them most? Your childs destructive behaviors are most likely symptoms of an underlying issue, disorder, addiction, or trauma. Rather than address the symptom it is extremely important that the core issue is identified and managed. Wiping your nose doesn't make your cold go away. It's merely a temporary fix until you must grab for another tissue. Many kids ...
Teen Depression Prevention - Teen Depression Though seasonal depression is most common in adults who live in higher latitudes, it can also affect teens. Teens can fight seasonal depression by spending a few minutes outside each day, especially during the winter months, staying active, and using light therapy. Teens who avoid depression triggers can often prevent or reduce episodes of depression. Teens who suffer from episodes of depression should talk to a doctor or therapist to treat their depression, especially if they have suicidal thoughts.

Behlow said he's also spoken with health and driver's ed teachers to make sure their curriculum addresses the dangers of teen alcohol use, and he anticipates bringing in more guest speakers to talk on the issue.
Back from addiction, she's voice for recovery Almost seven years after getting clean and sober, 28-year-old Ashley Stanley has to think a moment about where her story really starts. Was it that one eve of Yom Kippur, when she dissolved into tears in her father's car at the airport and admitted she was an alcohol and drug addict? Was it after the first relapse and descent into a daily crack cocaine habit, when she returned to rehab for the second time -- the one that ultimately worked? Or was it actually much earlier, as a teenage soccer star? With 450 saves in her junior and senior years at The Rivers School in Weston, ...
But Ken and Caren readily admit they didn't want to see what was going wrong with their daughter as she struggled toward adulthood. Back then, the signs of trouble were too easy to rationalize, said the Stanleys. Take, for example, the time when Ashley veered off the road and wedged her car between two boulders in Weston. The Stanleys accepted her explanation that the car had hydroplaned, "even though it was 75 degrees and sunny," her father said dryly. There was Ashley's drastic personality change from tomboy-like college student who could not be forced into a dress, ...

The Many Faces of Alcohol Abuse and - We Wish - Treatment Fifteen years ago I first heard the term pseudo-egalitarianism, false equality, from Dr. Steve Schroeder-Davis in Minneapolis. At the time he was speaking about “dumbing down” education so as to penalize the academically gifted. Through the course of my work with people suffering from alcohol related problems I encountered another face of the same form of denial institutionalized insistence that people are the same even when they obviously aren t, and that a condition is best treated by only one, usually unsuccessful, approach. Ignorance and fear would seem ...
People s abilities, The Cost of Child Abuse ...early age Physical Health after effects: The immediate physical effects of abuse or neglect can be relatively minor (bruises or cuts) or severe (broken bones, hemorrhage, or even death). In some cases the physical effects are temporary; however, the pain ... whether athletic, intellectual, musical, emotional, and so on, are not equal and we all know it. We may hate it, but we know it. To pretend otherwise is to ignore primary factors in the successful diagnosis and treatment of any condition, alcohol dependence included.
