I have a question for anyone who's done inner child therapy: Has anyone experienced this: in the initial stages of therapy, their inner child is unreachable - either limp, stares unseeing, slips out of the adult's arms, etc. If so, has anyone had any success in reaching their child? And if so, could anyone make any suggestions as to how they reached that child, brought them back to life? Thanks in advance. Hannah

At age 31, I finally discovered why the women who I am most attracted to, always abandon me and run away when the relationship starts to get close and then run back to me when their own fear of abandonment kicks in. I am a text book case of a Love Addict, while most of these women seem to be avoidance addicts. I am aware of the SLAA 12-step program and I currently attend SLAA meetings. However I truly believe that the fundamental cause of my love addiction are issues from childhood that must be ...

Dear all, long time no see... of course, I'm back because I need something, and I hope somebody here might be able to help. In essense, I'm looking for studies critical of child therapy, be it talk or medicamentation. I have enough anti-Ritalin literature.... but am wondering whether they are studies that explore whether therapy tends to do children any good, which children, or whether it may in fact (at times) harm them, and how/why. My suspicion, which may or may not be born out by such studie ...

Child and Teen Depression In October 2004, the FDA ordered a black box warning on all antidepressants for children and teens. A black box warning does not mean antidepressants are prohibited. It means that special care should be used with a medication. In a review of clinical trials, the FDA stated that there was an increased risk of suicidal thinking and behavior in 4 percent of young patients taking antidepressants, compared to 2 percent of those patients not taking an antidepressant. No suicides occurred in these trials. The FDA recommends close monitoring of children and teens taking antidepressants.
Anxiety in Children, Teen Stress and Teenage Depression Stress and anxiety in children and teenagers are just as prevalent as in adults. Stressed out and negligent parents, high expectations in academic or other performances, abused or deprived childhood, growing up tensions and demand for familial responsibility are the main causes of childhood and teen stress. Parents, who are not emotionally available for their children or lack positive coping mechanisms themselves, often spur stress in their offspring. Stressed children show signs of emotional disabilities, aggressive behavior, shyness, social phobia and often lack interest in otherwise enjoyable activities. ...
Growing up can be a difficult experience for both males and females. During this period, rapid physical transitions necessitate transition in a child's mental make-up, its attitude towards people and circumstances. Children are often ill equipped to cope with stress during these transitions from a child to pre-adolescence, and from pre-adolescence to adolescence phases. For pre-adolescents and teens, an identity crisis, the perils of peer interaction, acceptance and rejection ofsituations, persons and ideasare a constant source of teen stress and teenage depression. "Where do I stand?" and "How do I compare to others?" ...
Teen Depression - Adolescents - Depressed - Suicide One of the most serious behavioral problems among troubled teenagers is depression. It is essential that parents recognize when a pre-adolescent or adolescent child is depressed, because treatment is more effective with early intervention. The more serious consequence of untreated depression can be risk of suicide. Therefore, any indication that a child has been depressed for six months or more should be treated in the same way you would if you saw signs of physical disease in that child.
One of the obstacles facing parents is that the child may simply seem like what many believe is a "normal teen"-angry, belligerent, irritable, and hostile. These behaviors when isolated to events or short periods of time may well be the growing pains of adolescence, but when they extend beyond a six-month period and seem intractable and entrenched, parents need to seek intervention before more serious indications arise.

Studies show depression can be 'catchy' In addition, in teen families where the father is still in the home, there is a lower rate of sexual behavior in teens, but this is not the case if the mother in the home is chronically or severely depressed. These findings add to a long list of findings showing that maternal depression is associated with psychological difficulties in the children. (There is less research available pertaining to paternal depression.)
Center can change youths Parkside staff member has been there, and expansion can improve services. Parkside employee Dahran Goudeau does not want to hear excuses. As a staff member who works directly with the residents at the Tulsa Center for Adolescent Treatment, he knows how to react when they try to explain away bad behavior. "I grew up the same way these kids grew up," Goudeau said. "We lived in shelters, in our car and bathed in bathrooms before school. My mom had to cut off our gas and water to make $46 stretch for the summer. That makes me appreciate where I am now." Goudeau grew up in Tulsa's public ...
2 troubled young lives, a felony sex case Michigan's foster care system cares for more than 18,000 children, Department of Human Services data show.
