If you were buying one or more drug reference books, what would you get?
What are the best online references for drug spellings, capitalizations, etc?   I'm trying to scrape the rust off my knowledge :)

I don't know what's the best book; I can only tell you what I use.  Quick Look Drug Book and PDR.  Somewhere on the FDA site is a big list of drugs, which I downloaded and stripped of unnecessary information (such as the manufacturer).  The FDA also has a subscription e-mail thingy to keep you informed of updates (although it seems like a long time since the last update).  The FDA Orange Book is good and so is rxlist.com.  So far, this combination of resources has worked well.  I also have some odd drug resources, such an an over-the-counter drug book, that are rarely used.

I like to use the Quick Look Drug Reference (electronic) and Pharmaceutical Word Book.  The QLDB is good because it has a wildcard feature and is quicker for me than using a book, but it's not complete enough alone - hence the PWB too.

I like the Pharmaceutical Word Book and also use RX Drug List on line when I need the "wild card" feature or a search on Google.  I got the Quick Look book one year, but didn't find it as easy to use.  Maybe just what you get used to.

Just in case anyone doesn't know, Quick Look comes in both book and electronic forms.   I've never ordered the book form since I can't imagine one I'd like better than PWB.  I'd heard before (maybe from Barb) that the QL book wasn't as good.
Since my QL is several years old, I also use RX List and Google more and more frequently.

I like this also because it is soft cover and easy to thumb through.  However, it does not cross reference generics with brand names.  I think they will sell you another book for cross referencing, so you have to buy two books.  For this reason I prefer the American Drug Index even though it is hard cover.   I'd rather be a has been than a never was.

P.S., the ADI is available on CD-ROM.
