Not necessarily hard drugs, such as cocaine, heroine and crack, which come to mind for some parents, but there are other drugs that many parents overlook. California Drug Rehab According to a nationwide study by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, there is a marked increase in teen drug addiction among Californian teens. From 2002 to 2004, the number of Californian kids aged 12 to 17 years old who had used illegal drugs in the last month rose from 11.44 percent to 12.05 percent. While there were less students using cocaine, more of them were getting high on pain relievers, while as much as 9% admitted they had become regular, or even dependent, users.
What’s even more disturbing is that among all the people surveyed, all other age groups showed a decrease in drug use. But teenagers—who associated drugs with freedom to experiment, self-expression, and “a normal part of the party life”—still did not understand the long-term implications of popping a “few fun pills”. Because of this, California drug rehab centers have increased their efforts to study, and respond to, the particular needs of teen substance abuse. The research shows that the increase in drug use can be partly explained by peer pressure: drugs are introduced ...

Troubled Youth Programs Troubled youth programs, troubled teen programs, and defiant teen programs are all essentially the same. These types of placements are for children that are expelling from school, experiencing minor legal troubles, abusing drugs, and a myriad of other problems. The intent and hope is that there is help for a child who seems to be slipping through the cracks. The school system has limited resources to help a defiant teen. The legal system is usually "too little too late" with placement in the juvenile system the only recourse ...

Parents fight against teen drug use Tim Chapman, founder of Chapman House in Orange which works with drug-addicted teens, believes the program will help by creating a support system for parents but believes the group needs more organization. "I think it's a reflection of how desperate parents have been feeling for a long time," Chapman said. "I think the key is they're communicating with one another so they're not alone with their fears and that's great."

Three sites eyed for teen treatment center William wrote on Jul 21, 2007 10:01 AM: " The Times publishes more articles about how poor and needy PFC is and less about the TRUTH. Is it the job of the paper to offer free advertising to this organization? With an annual multimillion dollar budget, I would think that PFC could figure out a better way to advertise. But, then again, since this program uses the STRAIGHT, Inc. treatment modality, I can see why they have little public support. Bob, If you really think about it, who is footing THEIR bill? The Porter County council which ...

"Honey, Our Son is a Heroin Addict" Wednesday, June 27, 2007 "Honey, Our Son is a Heroin Addict" Those aren't words any parent wants to hear, but are exactly the words that a Michigan wife spoke to her husband about their teenage son. What followed were years of struggle; their son in and out of rehab, arrested, failing drug tests, and refusing to get the help he needed. "My son became a liar and a con artist. That may seem redundant, but they are different. He conned the staff at the first in-patient rehab into believing he was road ready after only a week ...
