DC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy - Adolescent Friendly Health How Do You to Talk to Adolescent Patients about Love, Sex and Relationships? Just like everyone else, it is often difficult for medical providers to talk about important and sensitive topics with teens. For doctors, nurses, as well as receptionists and medical technicians (anyone a teen may speak with when getting health care), it is important for them to put their adolescent patients at ease when receiving health care. If teens feel comfortable with their health care providers, this relationship can reduce risky behaviors, help teens ...
Better Health Care = Better Teens The exceptionally high rate of teen pregnancy and other negative heath indicators in DC presents a serious health concern because of the connection between early child bearing, school failure, and persistent poverty. As young people become adults, age appropriate health care can reduce risky behaviors, create sound health care practices, and prevent unintended pregnancies. Therefore, public and private health care providers have a special obligation to reach out to adolescents to provide health care ...

Teen Pregnancy Prevention: Why Care? - Teen Pregnancy - So What? I absolutely hate hearing everyone talk about that great party on the weekend or how they are going out of town over spring break. It seems that I am missing out on my childhood years. Where my daughter grows up and asks me what I did when I was a teen, all I will be able to say is "I changed your diapers and prepared you formula." I really wish I could go back and do things differently. I am sick of the constant worrying about how we are ever going to live once we move out of my mother's house.
I got pregnant a month before my 17th birthday. I live in an emergency shelter for teen moms. I raise my son alone. In his whole life, his father has only taken care of him by himself one time. He does not pay me child support. My son was born two months early and with a hole in his heart. He requires constant care, so I have little time for myself. I love my son more than anything in the world, but it would have been a lot better if this had happened when I was like 27 instead of 17.
When Children Have Children | American Academy of Child When Children Have Children No. 31; Updated July 2004 Babies born in the U.S. to teenage mothers are at risk for long-term problems in many major areas of life, including school failure, poverty, and physical or mental illness. The teenage mothers themselves are also at risk for these problems. Teenage pregnancy is usually a crisis for the pregnant girl and her family. Common reactions include anger, guilt, and denial. If the father is young and involved, similar reactions can occur in his family. Adolescents who become pregnant may not seek proper medical care ...

Post-Gazette Rachel Tokarski teaches a group of kids "awesome communications" as part of the Adagio Health peer educators program. Click photo for larger image. Adagio Health, ...

Agencies take look at 2005 'promise' Agencies take look at 2005 'promise' It's been nearly two years since Wayne County was identified as one of the 100 best communities for young people in the country. That honor, announced in September 2005, was made possible through America's Promise -- The Alliance for Youth. It targeted five promises that would benefit all children -- having caring adults in their lives; safe places with structured activities in which to learn and grow; a healthy start and healthy future; an effective education that equips them with ...
