To bridge this gap, we aim to empower and to inform those that care for the children of St Louis through this web site. Better Brooklyn Community Center - Youth & Family Programs After-School Tutorial Program The After-School Tutorial Program offers one-on-one homework assistance and tutoring to 190 students for the entire school year, based on the students needs. Tutors are certified teachers, educational specialists in math and reading, and trained volunteers who act as mentors, providing positive reinforcement for youth. Each child or teen is assessed and receives an individualized educational plan based on his particular academic needs in reading comprehension, math, science, and other subjects. Mentoring As part of the Youth & Family Department, the mentoring program is developed from the on going volunteer program that focuses on one on one tutoring. The Brooklyn Centers mentoring project brings professional and positive role models from the community to invest some of their time and energy to work with children and youth in our youth development programs. The focus of the mentoring project will to guide the students in academics but also to provide positive role models for these kids whether it is in career goals or academic skills.
