Yes, more now since there are so many places where they cannot smoke.

I just watched a show on The History Channel about smokeless tobacco.
The Europeans put the finely ground tobacco in a small pouch (like a tea bag) and stick it between their gum and upper lip.
Americans stick a processed tobacco between their gum and lower lip.
The difference is that Europeans don't spit.
I've never tried either and don't intend to, but if that's what they want to do, I wouldn't try to stop them from having what they may feel is one of life's little pleasures.

I remember once, I was trying to be macho and chewed a wad of chewing tobacco when in the US. I was with my workmates in the back of an open pick-up, and as it was windy in every direction, could not spit for fear of spraying my mates. So I had a mouthful of tobacco juice ready to spit when the pick-up stopped.
Would you believe it, the pick-up lurched forward and I swallowed the whole bloody mess. Boy did I turn green. You have no idea what a torture that was. I was truely sick. Never again, chewing tobacco!
