Things are looking good so far this season.
S P O I L E R S P A C E Not much of the "guidance counselor" plot, but nonetheless a really good episode.
Spike has officially lost it and what we saw last week was a projection of his insanity (or was it), But what is it with the stream of girls being killed by Monk-looking men at the beginning of each episode so far this season, And what does "It devours from beneath" mean? I'm thinking that we will not know for yet another few episodes.
I was tricked into believing that the big worm thing was big bad until I saw that it was in fact a worm and conveniently after this girl who had just gotten out of a bad realtionship. Anyanka (SP?) is getting back in the habit of being bad, but still a little too human. I had thought that either Spike or Xander was going to break her neckalace and make her human again.
One thing really bothered me about this episode, they are making them feel too short (Maybe it's the comercials?) It really did not feel like a whole hour, and when it was over I felt cheated some quality Buffy time.
Overall, I think things are looking really good this season, and I can't wait to see what they do with all they have started building.
Bessie ...I also wonder what is in store for Willow.

Spoilers: Aside from the Giles/Willow and final Buffy/Spike scene, it felt like filler.
That Nancy was annoying as all hell and I hope she isn't coming back. Plus, they keep giving Dawn these big scenes and Trachtenberg can't carry them off.
Dawn's threat to Spike was about as scary as a wedgie.
The Spike/Anya/Buffy brawl was the worst fight sequence I've ever seen on this show.

Buddy, you've been abusing the spice something wicked.  You posted the same dammed thing three times!  Obviously you are no Freman nor Guild Navigator.  They all know how to indulge their habit without losing control.  I'd lay a safe bet that you must be some long lost Harkonnen bastard.
About the _Buffy_ ep, I was really dissapointed that there were no bathroom scenes this time.  Also, I was a little disturbed by the beginning.  There is no joy in watching helplessly while fighting young women full of life get slaughtered like that.  In the first episode, we didn't really know what to expect.  This time, we all knew exactly what was going to happen, we knew her desperate flight and fight where all in vain, and because of that we hated every moment of it (at least I did).  Are they going to keep doing that at the beginning of each episode?  Enough already!
That being said, I'd had concerns ever since last season's ender about the way they might handle Spike's revelation to Buffy about his soul.
I am immensely happy about the breathtakingly beautiful way in which they did it.  I also think it is mighty cool that Anyanka could see it right away, and that she seemed so happy for Spike over it.
Definitely a big thumbs up winner of an episode (as for anyone out there who feels that Spike's character has been "emasculated" or that he is somehow not an infinitely more interesting character now, you can blow me; take a number -- there is a long line-up ahead).
Cheers, Jaime

 The feet go first.
That's okay; with practice, you too can learn to distinguish redshirt minions from the Evil Overlord (EO always gets the most dialogue, for example).
An indictment from a grand jury?
David Thompson, oops, that's real life...
The rain came down in torrents, the wind increased to a stiff breeze and some of the juniors, not accustomed to be rocked in the cradle of the deep, were forced to "Cast their bread upon the waters."

Complete tangent, but am I the only one who felt like they were watching "Alias" for a second? :)

ja ...@nospam.ptd.net (J.)

You make an "Alias" reference when it was painfully obvious that they were going for a "Run Lola Run" homage?
Y'all need to go rent yourself some movies, Mr. Pedantic.

Alias didn't register for me, probably because I've never seen it. But I did think that UPN was doing the world broadcast premiere of "Run Lola Run" for a second :).

SPOILERS: Spike is tormented by his past victims now he has a soul, but how long will this last?  I liked the parody of "Run Lola Run" at the beginning and personally, I wish what happened to the girl in the Buffy ep. had happened to Franka Potenta (who I admire as an actor) since her character was a dislikable street punk in that movie.

Alias also makes RLR homages, but Buffy's homage seems closer to Alias than a direct reference to RLR.  Lola was rarely *chased*, whereas Sydney's usually running away from bad guys.  Sydney has actually run around near and in nightclubs, and with a goofy wig on.  Lola just dyed her hair.  Sydney busts out the martial arts.  Lola didn't, for the most part.  The Buffy scene was entirely Alias, and thus secondhand RLR.

I have a theory about that. I think that "beneath" may refer to hell itself. Which leads into my thought that the "big bad" for this season may actually be Satan. What leads me to this, you may ask? A few things. First of all, last week, someone said that it's "older than the old ones." Also, during the final scene of this episode, when Spike was explaining to Buffy why he wanted his sould back, first he says to Buffy, "I thought that was what you wanted." Then, he looks upward and says, "And I thought it was what YOU wanted." It seems to me that he may have, in his own way, been talking to God. So, if the show is acknowledging God so much, I think that the "big bad" is Satan.
Then again, I could be wrong. :) Rick

That's what happens when you are a nice West Virginia gal who suddenly decides to venture out to go see what the big bad world has to offer.
Let that be a lesson to all.  Stay home and mind the cows (and the old homely blokes who tip the cows over).

So does that mean that despite it being called "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," it is truly a story about Spike's redemption?

Bessie>...what is it with the stream of girls being killed by Monk-
Bessie>looking men at the beginning of each episode so far this season...
I stand by my earlier theory that these are proto-Slayers, one of whom would be "activated" upon the death of Faith.  They're easier to kill now, before they get the Big Mojo; but expect Faith (and Buffy) to be eventual targets as well.
Bessie>And what does "It devours from beneath" mean?
Ask your husband what "cunnilingus" is.
Rick>I have a theory about that. I think that "beneath" may refer to hell Rick>itself...
Which is another dimension, not "below ground"; and I think the big bad that's coming, older than the old ones, is older even than hell.
Bessie>I was tricked into believing that the big worm thing was big bad      Much too early to see the Big Bad; and it's never obvious.
Bessie>until I saw that it was in fact a worm      Muad'Dib!  Actually, on first appearance, it looked pretty phallic.
This is what led me to believe it was Nancy's ex.
Jaime>I was a little disturbed by the beginning.  There is no joy in Jaime>watching helplessly while fighting young women full of life get Jaime>slaughtered like that.  In the first episode, we didn't really know Jaime>what to expect.  This time, we all knew exactly what was going to Jaime>happen, we knew her desperate flight and fight where all in vain, Jaime>and because of that we hated every moment of it (at least I did).
What made it different this time was that Buffy was also watching, and we learned that Buffy was watching (the first time, it looked relatively random and unconnected).  One could theorize that you were supposed to feel disturbed and helpless watching her inevitable death, because that's the same way Buffy would be feeling...
Jaime>That being said, I'd had concerns ever since last season's ender Jaime>about he way they might handle Spike's revelation to Buffy about Jaime>his soul.  I am immensely happy about the breathtakingly beautiful Jaime>way in which they did it.  I also think it is mighty cool that Jaime>Anyanka could see it right away, and that she seemed so happy for Jaime>Spike over it.
Agreed and agreed; also liked the fact that it was Spike, not Anyanka, who revealed it to Buffy -- she should have heard it from him.  Also glad he's not being an Angel clone.
Jaime>Definitely a big thumbs up winner of an episode (as for anyone out Jaime>there who feels that Spike's character has been "emasculated"...
Is it just me, or does it look like Spike's chip might be dead?  It looked to me as though he screamed, not in pain, but as a reflex when he stabbed the ex-snake/ex-boyfriend, an expectation of pain -- then he stopped screaming, surprised, realizing that he *didn't* feel the pain...   And *that* is when he wigged out.
Bessie>...I also wonder what is in store for Willow.
Jaydeet>An indictment from a grand jury?
Obviously she was never charged, unless she fled the country in advance of police investigators; even in Sunnydale, I'd love to see a district attorney, in broad daylight in a court of law, describe the murder scene and the subsequent autopsy.

Yeah, but where's the body?  No body no murder, right?  He's just a missing person.
She might get in trouble for tearing apart the police station, but then they'd have to admit that magic was real to convict her.    That was a neat scene, but why were there 20 officers with guns pointed at her but not one of them decided to shoot?

Could be.  They seem to be talking about the big bad a lot this season.  Maybe the characters are getting used to the formula too; the master, the mayor, Glory, etc.
Is there supposed to be another season?  It almost seems like they're gearing up to go out in a blaze (pun intended) of glory (whoops there's almost another one.)
