1. Has anyone used or is familiar with the Vinoferm Acidometer kit for TA. Sounds cool so I ordered one.
How about the optional "iodic solution" for testing free SO2 with this kit?
It's on pg 56 of WineMaker magazine latest issue.
2. I recently ran acrosss a refractometer, that says it checks Brix 0 to 40 and also checks Alcohol 0 to 25% in wine.
One sold on Ebay for about $76.
Also sounds cool, but have never heard of such an item mentioned anywhere before.

I use a refractometer for sugar content (Brix). I am planning to get an alcohol refractometer in the future, but that is more of a luxury. They are quite expensive. I never heard of one that reads both. I don't know why no one discusses them in this NG. They are really quite easy to use. Easier than hydrometers and more impressive. Last year all my neighbors had me test their grapes on the vine for sugar content.

Andy Refractometers are actually the prefered method for checking sugars in industry but a good one will cost over $100 US; they are great for checking grapes too as you mentioned.
To be honest though, you always want to pick several berries from different areas on a vine and several vines to get an aggregate, so I really think it's a personal preference thing. If I were growing grapes I might get one too, they are fine instruments.
I think the reason most of us discuss hyrometers is the fact that a hydrometer is just as accurate and costs around $10 US; for me it's a cost benefit thing.

Joanne, I got it for $16.13 (free shipping) from brewman at http://www.floridahomebrewers.com/main.html He tells me I should get 60 to 70 tests? with the 100ml indicator solution & he's got the optional iodic solution (to measure free SO2) coming in this week.
Can't give any reports on the kit as I've told him to hold off shipping until I check out the free SO2 test possibilities with this "iodic" solution.
Oh, no I'm not connected in any way.
I'm still waiting to hear from some one who knows anything about the combination Brix/alcohol refractometer that's been selling on ebay............

Jeff I'm not sure what you want on the refractometer, the accuracy is stated in the link. If it's true, it is good enough for home winemaking. It is either a very good deal or it's junk, I can't tell without more info.
I can say the price is very low for a refractometer with ATC, and you usually get what you pay for. I can't imagine it has a very good prism for that price; see if they can give you typical calibration info or at least more data.

Jeff, thanks for the info on where to purchase.
Just an aside here, but really, I couldn't give a rat's rump about whether someone is connected or not to any item. I don't see any reason why anyone has to put a disclaimer about any item in their posts. Just my thoughts for no-one's penny. By the way, I also saw the picture of the acidometer in the Winemaker Magazine.
