How can someone that has such a low self image of themself be a troubled teens mentor?  I certainly wouldn't want Rupert helping me out.  He seems to need some counciling of his own.
If he can't seperate people playing a game from people not accepting him then he has major issues.
Or maybe he's just a sore loser.. could be either I guess.

He just teaches job skills to teens. He does not counsel them.

Well either way I wouldn't want him anywhere near my teen.  Between his violent temper fits and his cry baby attitude when he loses I'd be afraid he'd seriously hurt my child both physically and mentally.
"Mr. Boneham, what should I do if I things aren't going my way in life?" "Well son, you should either throw a huge temper fit and threaten violence..
or cry." "Oh.. ok!"

He had to say something in the first couple minutes after being voted off, and was probably in a general, overwhelming, phase of just saying to himself "I'm a loser", "This always happens to me....".
I wouldn't read into it as though he had a full week to reflect and prepare a formal press release or something.
Once things turned individual, he sort of mistakenly thought that being the fisherman, boosting others, etc., would keep him going. Instead, he was too strong and became others' target. Think he forgot others were realizing they couldn't win if he was around -- it's not about his merits as a "survivor".

I agree and have said it a few posts when people were saying he was using the "Scared Straight" tactics on Jon.

"John Smith" j...@smith.com

Well generally people will say what they really think right away.  If you give him a week to think about it and have press people tell him that acting like a cry baby loser will make him look bad, then ya he's gonna change his tune.

I agree.  Rupert is probably the most genuine human being I've seen on Survivor, and like it or not, there's a bit of Rupert in everyone one of us.
Perhaps one day, I'll get the chance to knock Johnny Fairplay's buck teeth out of his pin-head.

Don't be angry just because you're gay (not that there's anything wrong with that) and want to be Rupert's screw pooch.

The companies/state agencies cannot afford more emotionally stable people?
Then again, Rupert might be fine at his job.

Totally incorrect. He would make an excellent counselor because he knows the pain these kids are feeling. In the same way most drug counselors are ex-junkies. And I would totally trust Rupert with any of my kids, he is absolutely, totally trustworthy. What you saw at the end of the Survivor episode was a demoralized Rupert: he said in the Early Show interview that when he made his audition tape, he absolutely expected that he would win the game, and especially when he realized it would have a Pirate theme. So being booted out was totally devasting to him. He also desperately needed the million dollars, to provide for his family, whom he loves, and so he was *understandably* devastated when he was booted out. One should not look at his exiting statement that closely, except to surmise from it that he was supremely confident in his abilities, and therefore blamed himself for his failure, rather than placing the blame where it really belonged: with Jon, with Burton, with MB for bringing back the Outcasts and then giving them automatic immunity, etc.
In the Early Show taped interview Rupert acknowledged that he was a worthy individual, basically disavowing his earlier negative comments about himself. I'm sure once he sees how incredibly popular he is with most of the viewers, and that many feel he should have won the game, I think that is worth a bit more than a million for him. And I'm also sure he will earn at least that in Hollywood by playing the Hells Angel heavy-type, or even in starring roles if a good writer can tailor-make a role for him.

What happens if the kid screws up? No sympathy or understanding for the kid just "How dare you make me look bad." with his hand around the kid's throat, 2 inches from his face screaming "I'm going to kill you."

"JR Hess" imc...@imcool.com

Sore loser for sure, and then kinda dumb.
With his "pity me" statement he blew any chance of ever getting an advertising or PR gig. And that could have been worth several million$ long term.
If in his closing statement he whould have just fessed up to not recognizing the alliance against him, accepted defeat and then expressed a little appreciation to the Survivor show for allowing him to make it as far as he did, he would have actually walked away as a "winner." He would have been seen as a great guy plus have kept his work-hard role model image (with marketable value).
Too bad his street smarts didn't extend a little further. Here's where you'd a thunk he'd would have had that planned "just in case" before even going to Panama.

Truthfully, you are totally distorting his personality. He is more likely to harm himself; that would be my concern. But no worry with any child placed in his care.

Great points!
The only thing I can think of is that he honestly couldn't believe he would be edited up as the hero and that all he had to do was roar merrily at the camera for his final words, then come home and sign up as the spokesman for Beast Cologne!  :-)

"troubled teens mentor" indeed!  :-)
