Programs for Youth at risk in Canada CanAdventure EducationPrograms for Youth at risk in Canada - CanAdventure Education An Overview of Programs for Youth at Risk in Canada by Greg Stevenson Programs for youth at risk in Canada are, for the most part, run by government or not-for-profit organizations. Many Canadians expect programs and services for youth at risk to be free, or at least subsidized by parties other than the direct user. This perspective is consistent with Canadians' strong support for a social security system that provides essential services at no cost to those who are struggling to find a positive and productive place in society. Any professional who works with youth at risk knows ...

THINKING ABOUT EDUCATIONTHINKING ABOUT EDUCATION These may seem like baby steps. The schools are still free to participate in most parts of the rankings (though several, including Austin College, say they will stop sending in data that are available to the public). But I still think signing takes courage. Many of the schools are respected in their regions but must work hard to attract notice elsewhere. A good ranking can help recruit students and financial backers from other parts of the country.

Some skeptics say the 61 challengers are, well, voice-in-the-wilderness idealists. A handful of small colleges won't derail something as entrenched as the rankings, they say – especially not these colleges, since none are rated higher than 30th on U.S. News' list.I doubt U.S. News is deeply worried about the boycott – though it has attracted a fair amount of press attention, and the magazine did notify journalists recently that it has created a new blog run by its data guru, Robert Morse, called Morse Code: Inside the College Rankings. ...

Teens still confused about HPV vaccineTeens still confused about HPV vaccine Gardasil is the only vaccine that may help guard against diseases caused by the human papillomavirus, or HPV, a common sexually transmitted infection spread through skin-to-skin contact. The Gardasil commercials, with their "one less" and "tell someone" campaigns, have brought this to the general public's attention but have caused confusion among some teens.

It was her adventures on her family's Spring Branch ranch that sparked her children's book, 'Texas Pal and the Ranch Buddies.' In the course of only four months, Seguin High School senior Jordan Gass-Pooré wrote the 32-page story about a young girl exploring not only the wilderness but the truths of life. For this multicultural 17-year-old of Spanish, German, Austrian and French heritage, sending a message to children about tolerance toward other races was a priority. Throughout her story, the main character, Savannah, encounters wild animals, such as the black ...

Warning MEME AheadWarning: MEME Ahead 1. The phone rings. Who do you want it to be? Nobody...I hate it when the phone rings...unless it's someone offering to take my kiddos off my hands for a few hours;) 2. When shopping at the grocery store, do you return your cart? Almost always return the cart to the proper place... don't want to be responsible for the run-away cart. My dad is an insurance agent...enough said! 3. In a social setting, are you more of a talker or a listener? Unfortunately, usually the talker. Of course , I usually say something that I regret and obsess about it for the next 2 days. 4. If abandoned alone in the wilderness, would you survive? If I was abandoned alone ...

Ok, now that you know I am a computer idiot, let me just say I loved reading your responses, especially about blogging the sexy pursuer... 8/20/2007 10:54 AM   Sniz said... I'm so glad I found your blog. This list is awesome and we have a lot in common (although I've always only dreamed about being 5'9"), especially numbers four, five and six. I, too, talk a lot and then obsess about what I said for days, and horses are out to get me! :-) 8/20/2007 10:54 ...

Therapeutic Wildernss programTherapeutic Wildernss program I promised to blog about the man that I talked to at the school counselor’s conference. His name is Steve Sawyer and he works at Alternatives in Psychological Counseling , as well as running Eagle’s Vision Wilderness Program . I was very impressed with him, and his programs. He gets our kids. He has worked with them at some tough “schools for boys.” The wilderness program is for kids age 12 – 18. It is a 4 day intensive program, and they do have a 7 day program as well. The best part is the price is AFFORDABLE, about $100 a day. I know parents that easily pay $100 a day for respite, and this provides ...

Boarding Schools Offer Structure fr the ADHD Troubled TeenBoarding Schools Offer Structure fr the AD/HD Troubled Teen Unfortunately, right on the heels of AD/HD can come calling a laundry list of other problems with an at-risk teenager; low-self esteem, poor grades, rage, hostility and drug abuse. When trying to raise a teenager who’s behavior embodies all of these contributors, the parent is forced to consider alternative educational options. Though most public schools have excellent programs for the AD/HD inflicted teen, they are not adequately equipped to deal with AD/HD compounded by other behavioral disorders.
