GERALD "AJAX" ACKERMAN, a former psych counselor from Michigan, was convicted of sexually molesting several young girls, aged 8 to 12, who were being treated at his youth center. He's now serving 25 to 38 years in prison.

Welcome to the Community Youth Center The Concord Youth Center, now named The Community Youth Center - Concord Campus, opened on September 16, 1995. A one million dollar gift from the The Hofmann Foundation started the process, and today the CYC is an amazing state of the art youth sports and academic complex. The CYC was started to help address growing concerns regarding cutbacks in youth programs at a time when young people were being forced to deal with problems like gangs, drugs, and crime. Church window The Evangelical Free Church of Canton will host its second annual men's retreat from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25. The theme is "Finding the high ground." Registration will be from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Rolls, coffee, tea and lunch will be available, along with fellowship. The retreat will be a day of worship, praise and encouragement. The men will study what the Bible has to say about equipping them to be better spiritual leaders at home, in the world and at church.
CUBA -- The Lighthouse Mission and Youth Center (formerly the Teen Believers Youth Center) in Cuba is getting ready to offer more entertainment to the youth of Cuba and the surrounding communities. Plans are underway to install multiple arcade games along with a jukebox for the young people's enjoyment. The center now offers a free pool table and other games along with a snack bar. Work is continuing on the new snack bar and dining area. which will offer a variety of services to the youth and the community once complete.

Kids' triathlon set for today For the 10-to-14-year-old groups, the events are a 100-meter swim, a 1.76-mile bike ride and a 1.06-mile run. Awards are given to the top three finishers in age group and finisher certificates are given to all participants. Children should bring a T-shirt and shorts to put on over their swimsuits. They should also bring a bike, helmet and sneakers. Parents can run with their child during the running portion. Two aid stations will be set up along the course. The Grand Opening of the Koblerville Youth Learning Center This Koblerville Youth Learning Center was built years ago, but stood empty because of lack of funding to hire personnel and to fund its operations. This facility is located at the Koblerville Substation off the main Koblerville Road on Saipan.
