Sounds like Paula readied herself for the arrest with the obligatory "it was the alcohol talking" defense, preferred by politicians and Hollywood stars everywhere. A N G E L E S, July 9 ??” Comedian Paula Poundstone was in an alcohol rehab program when she was arrested on child endangerment charges two weeks ago, her lawyer revealed today.
Poundstone pleaded not guilty to child endangerment charges in a Santa Monica, Calif., courtroom last week.
When Poundstone was arrested, she was staying at a live-in alcohol treatment program, her attorney, Steven Cron, said on ABCNEWS Good Morning America.
"Paula has had an intermittent alcohol problem that's existed for a while," Cron said. "Recently it became more than she felt she could handle. So together with her family, before these charges came to light, they made the decision as a family that she was going to go into a live-in alcohol rehabilitation program." The 41-year-old comedian now faces four felony charges: three counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14, and one count of child endangerment on four other children. If convicted of all charges, she could face up to 13 years and four months in prison.
Cron declined to discuss specifics of the charges against Poundstone, but he said the allegations are related to her drinking problem.
"I would say her involvement with alcohol was the basis for the allegations," Cron said. "Nevertheless, Paula is adamant and I am firmly of the belief that she is not guilty of the charges of lewd conduct." Poundstone's attorney would not say whether the charges involved the five children who were in her care. The entertainer has been distraught over the charges, and is concerned about the welfare of her children, he said.
Poundstone has three adopted children and two foster children, all of whom are currently in the care of county authorities.
The comedian has a history of advocating on behalf of children, and has long supported children's rights and served as a foster parent for numerous children in the past, most of them abused and abandoned, Cron said.
As is typical in cases involving allegations of child molestation, the judge ordered Poundstone to stay away from minors, unless they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. All of the court documents were sealed. Poundstone will return to court July 30, when a date will be set for a preliminary hearing.

I didn't see it in this article but I did see it on Bloomberg this morning. She checked into rehab AFTER incident that got her arrested.
And her attorney said that undoubtedly her addiction contributed to the events that resulted in the charges against her.
I'd say too little too late ... and checking in almost designates "conciousness of guilt".

What world are you living in? There is no abundance of foster homes for hard to place children. Yes, there are many people that are eager to adopt infants but those are not the types of children that Paula was known to care for. She took children that needed homes because they were abused, neglected, sickly or otherwise undesirable.
And what about Paula is it that you find is not "normal"? If you are alluding to what I think you are then I suggest you need to get out of the house more often and face the "real" world.

Strange as it may seem...there are plenty of us out here in the *real* world who STILL find pedophilia to be abnormal. IF it turns out that these charges are true....then this 40-something year old woman is a pedophile, plain and simple.

I'm also obliged to inform you that there is not a plethora of adoptive or foster homes other than for cute white infants.

Poundstone, 41, was arrested June 27 in Malibu and faces charges of three counts of committing a lewd act on a girl under the age of 14 and one count of endangering four children, said two other girls and two boys, said Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Gina Satriano.
All four charges are felonies, Satriano said.

fostered children? I And note I did not say *normal*. It does not bother me if gay or single folks adopt or foster children. Love is love to children. It does bother me that an alcohol or drug problem gets thrown in there and children might be at more risk, especially after being thrown about orphanages, foster homes, CPS, family after family etc.
And of course the lawyer now admiting her alcohol problems led to the charges, leads me to believe she was at the very least *doin' somthing* stupid.

Don't try to p*** off lesbianism as anything more than the sick perversion that it is.

To be accurate, he said her alcohol problem "clearly had a bearing" on the *allegations*. This may be a flag that he's going to attack witness credibility in this regard.

"Child endangerment," as cited in some of the counts against Poundstone, may also include exposure of minors to alcohol and so forth, without a sexual component to the crime. In some jurisdictions it's an equivalent to "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" or various forms of custodial neglect.

She's been charged but not convicted and there hasn't been any show of evidence to prove that she is guilty of any crime.
You're quick to jump on Paula and tag her as a child molester yet what about your good buddy Condit? Having an affair with an impressionable young girl, young enough to be his daughter, makes him pretty damn close to a child molester in my book.

Here, here!! I say we install camera in the homes of all suspected lesbians so that we can monitor their actions at all times and catch them in the foul act. And make copies to keep as evidence lest the lesbian conspiracy make the originals somehow disappear. And give the tapes fake titles spoofing current movies and making bad puns so as to throw the foul creatures off the trail. And show them to fellow christain men shortly before their marriages so they can learn how to recognize the foulness of lesbianism should it creep unbidden into their homes.

Paula Poundstone and other gender benders like Michael Jackson should be allowed to adopt. They have such a good track record.
Michael looks like Liz Taylor and Paula, in her zoot suit, looks like a roofer with bad fashion sense.
Just keep Paula away from the Girl Scouts and Brownies.
