The statement below has been forwarded to me by an interested party. It seems to me that the only reason that relatives who live with the DP cannot be paid is because the Gov, some 9 years ago drew up a trust deed that is obviously inappropriate. What do you think and how can this be cracked? Surely once the Gov is shown it is not a good trust deed the Gov can draw up another or alter this one? smicker The "Trust Deed", which governs the way money provided to the Funds can be released, ...

Sex offender loses court ruling LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- A convicted sex offender forced to move by state law lost his bid for a court order that would have allowed him to return home, but his attorney said other legal options were available. An attorney for the man called John A. Doe in court documents said he planned to file a preliminary plea to the Indiana Court of Appeals as a first step. The appellate court then would have 30 days to rule on whether Tippecanoe Superior Court Judge Don Johnson erred Tuesday when he denied Doe's request for a preliminary injunction. Doe is one of 28 convicted ...

Cruelty-Free Charities I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how new alternatives to animal testing can make donating to charities a much less difficult thing for people, like me, who don’t wish to support animal testing but would love to see a cure for cancer or multiple sclerosis. I never used to like to donate to find-the-cure-charities because I felt like I was giving my money to animal abusers who worked in state of the art million-dollar-laboratories-of-pain. On the other hand, who doesn’t want to support a cure for paralysis or HIV? But there are some charities that don’t use animal testing. So you can donate to them ...
Hope for LGBT Homeless Youth in Southeast Michigan Up to 42% of homeless and runaway youth identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, according to the National Runaway Switchboard--a number vastly disproportionate to the general population. What does this mean for the Detroit area? Grace McClelland, Executive Director of the Ruth Ellis Center , says we are in the midst of an epidemic of LGBT homelessness. "The estimated number of homeless youth not receiving shelter services in Detroit on any given day ranges from 1,600 to 2,000. Of those, 640-800 homeless LGBT youth are on the streets of Detroit every day," according to a recent ...
6 comments: Kathy said... I had no idea this was one of the primary reasons so many youth runaway, but it makes sense. I know too many parents who put stress on their children to be "perfect" and, unfortunately, finding out your child is LGB or T probably isn't on their list. What a shame. That's a time when kids need the support of their parents even more. It's nice that there is a local organization to help them. May 11, 2007 3:28 PM CEW said... I know. Helping foster youth prepare to age out of care I have read about situations in this country where foster children grow up and age out of the system. In the stories that I read, the kids didn’t have the usual skills that kids get from the parents (learning to drive, handling money, etc.). The reason for that was because they hadn’t been with one family long enough to learn them or the foster parents didn’t teach them. So, now they are 18 and on their own with less skills for living than 18-year olds who still live with their parents. It can become ...
